Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Financial Risk Management

The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science offers both undergraduate and postgraduate training in (Mathematical) Statistics, Actuarial Science and Financial Risk Management.  Members of the Department are also actively engaged in research and consulting in these fields. The Department has excellent computing facilities (hardware as well as software) in support of these activities. A position at the Senior Lecturer or Lecturer position in the Financial Risk Management section is available in the Department. 

Duties

Senior Lecturer:

• Teaching and developing undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses in Financial Risk Management;
• Participating and taking a leading role in the Department's research activities in Financial Risk Management;
• Supervising postgraduate students; 
• Assisting with and expanding on the Department's liaison with the financial industry.

Lecturer:

• Teaching and developing undergraduate courses in Financial Risk Management;
• Participating in the Department's research activities in Financial Risk Management;
• Supervising Honours students;
• Assisting with and expanding on the Department's liaison with the financial industry.

Job Requirements

Senior Lecturer:

• At least a Master's degree in the Mathematical Sciences (Financial Risk Management, Mathematical Statistics, Mathematics or Applied Mathematics), PLUS a professional qualification in Financial Risk Management and/or Quantitative Financial Analysis, OR a PhD in the Mathematical Sciences (Financial Risk Management, Mathematical Statistics, Mathematics or Applied Mathematics);
• The intention to begin with and complete a PhD in Mathematical Sciences (Financial Risk Management, Mathematical Statistics, Mathematics or Applied Mathematics) if the candidate does not have a PhD;
• Proven practical experience in the financial sector and/or proven research output with respect to quantitative Financial Risk Management;
• Ability to teach Financial Risk Management at undergraduate and postgraduate level;
• Ability to develop undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Financial Risk Management.

Lecturer:

• At least a Master's degree in the Mathematical Sciences (Financial Risk Management, Mathematical Statistics, Mathematics or Applied Mathematics);
• Ability to teach Financial Risk Management at undergraduate level;
• Ability to develop undergraduate modules in Financial Risk Management;
• The intention to begin with and complete a PhD in Mathematical Sciences (Financial Risk Management, Mathematical Statistics, Mathematics or Applied Mathematics) if the candidate does not have a PhD.

Recommendation

Senior Lecturer:

• Teaching experience at postgraduate level;
• Computing skills, especially in at least two of the following: VBA, Matlab, R, Python and SAS.

Lecturer:

• Teaching experience;
