KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and Learning:

• Conduct classes and maintain multimodal teaching facilities.
• Prepare study materials and participate in curriculum development.
• Coordinate teaching and learning in classrooms.
• Prepare assessments in line with NWU and FHUM T&L Policies.

Research and Supervision:

• Supervise post-graduate students.
• Produce academic articles for publication in DHET- accredited journals.
• Attend and present articles at national and international conferences.
• Organise and participate in seminars, webinars and public lectures. 

Community Engagement:

• Participation in departmental, school and faculty community engagement projects.

Minimum requirements

• A PhD (NQF level 10) in Public Administration, Public Affairs or Public Management and Governance.
• A minimum of three (3) years’ lecturing experience.
• Postgraduate supervision.
• Record of academic publications.

RECOMMENDATION / ADDED ADVANTAGE:                       

• Membership with any professional body in the field of Public Administration.
• At least five (5) publications in peer-reviewed journals.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

• Possess at least three (3) years of post-qualification experience at the University level in areas of teaching and learning.
• Demonstrate knowledge in the field of Public Administration to teach and support learning.
• Experience in teaching Local Government will be an added advantage.
• Possess evidence of scholarship as attested by publications [at least five (5) journal articles] in Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)- accredited journals in the field of Public Administration.
• Possess post-graduate supervision experience at Master's level (at least one completed). Evidence of supervision/co-supervision at PhD level would be an added advantage.

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

• Evidence of publication in DHET-accredited journals and conference proceedings.
• Teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
• Projecting a good image of the department in terms of recruiting students and maintaining relations with local stakeholders.
• Representing the department in different internal/external committees or administrative meetings of the faculty and School of Government Studies.
