National Diploma or bachelor’s degree in computer networks, Information Technology, or related field 5+ years’ experience in enterprise or ISP-level network engineering
Professional certification: CCNP (required), CCIE or JNCIP (advantageous) Strong experience with routing/switching, firewalls, and wireless access technologies
Understanding of municipal broadband models and government ICT frameworks Familiarity with network monitoring and ticketing systems (e.g. Zabbix, SolarWinds, NetFlow) Preferred Attributes
Key Responsibilities
Lead design, deployment, and management of high-availability fibre and wireless network infrastructure across the City of Johannesburg
Oversee the performance and resilience of MTC’s Metro Ethernet, MPLS, and broadband access networks
Configure and maintain core, distribution, and access layer devices (Cisco, Huawei, Juniper) Implement secure network architectures supporting public Wi-Fi, municipal services, CCTV surveillance, and IoT applications Manage BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VPNs, ACLs, and quality of service (QoS) policies
Provide Tier 3 support and troubleshoot complex connectivity issues across multiple sites Support integration of smart city technologies and ensure compliance with POPIA, ISO 27001, and other relevant regulations Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with technical and government stakeholders
