We're seeking a dynamic Senior People Manager at Onafriq to lead and manage all HR functions in our Southern Africa Region (South Africa, Mauritius, Zimbabwe).
This role requires a strong HR generalist background with exceptional expertise in Talent management and Employee Relations (ER).
The ideal candidate will be an adaptable, hands-on professional who thrives in a dynamic and complex environment and has a proven track record in labour law relations and strategic HR initiatives.
Success in this role will require consistent and meaningful engagement with demanding internal and external stakeholders and colleagues.
The role will be supported by the rest of the People Team at both director and business partner level. The role holder will be required to work in our Johannesburg office at least 4 days per week during their probation period. On successful completion of probation the in-office requirement will reduce to 3 days per week.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop, review, and implement HR policies and best practices
Support the entire employee lifecycle from recruitment through to exit.
Work closely with the People Director: Talent management to facilitate training & development initiatives as required
Provide input on payroll administration for designated countries
Handle all internal employee relations and dispute resolution matters
Provide guidance and input into Employment Equity plans
Drive performance review and management processes, including performance improvement plans (PIP)
Monitor and mitigate people-related risks, including regulatory risks and reputational risks
Provide useful HR data, information and advice to managers and employees to improve employee experience and productivity
Champion company values through behaviour and actions
Continuously seek ways to improve the employee experience within Onafriq
Any other duty as may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications and experience:
Relevant qualification in HR
At least 5 years of proven experience at Senior HR manager level, preferably in the fintech, banking or payments industry.
HR leadership of a medium to large workforce (50 - 100+ employees) at all levels of seniority
Ability to prioritise work output while working across various timelines
Ability to manage complex situations with professionalism and confidentiality, while managing stakeholder expectations
Ability to think critically and problem-solve beyond the immediate or most expedient
Ability to communicate directly and clearly, considering all aspects of a particular situation
Experience working with dispersed and virtual teams.
Experience in delivering people-focused data analysis and reporting as required
