Senior Procurement Manager at AltGen South Africa

Role Purpose

• An international renewable energy developer is expanding its activities in South Africa and preparing for the execution of large-scale renewable energy projects. This includes significant main equipment, civil, electrical, and grid infrastructure procurement.
• We are seeking an experienced procurement professional to lead and manage complex commercial and contractual processes in close cooperation with local engineering teams and global procurement stakeholders.
• The Senior Procurement Manager will lead all aspects of BOP/BOS and grid infrastructure procurement in South Africa and support global colleagues in the procurement of major equipment packages including:
• Wind Turbine Generators
• PV Modules
• Inverters
• BESS
• Electrolysers

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Procurement & Tendering
Develop and implement procurement strategies for infrastructure scopes including:

• Civil and Electrical Balance of Plant
• EPC packages
• Substations
• Roads
• Foundations
• Grid connections

Lead multi-stage tender processes from RFQ through to contract award, including:

• Bid evaluations
• Negotiation
• Contract finalisation

Coordinate closely with:

• Local engineering teams
• PMO
• Construction and development teams
• Central procurement stakeholders at global HQ

Contract Management & Risk Mitigation
Draft and negotiate infrastructure and long-term service contracts based on international standards such as:

• FIDIC
• NEC

Identify and manage commercial risks related to:

• Performance
• Timelines
• Permitting
• Site conditions
• Grid connection
• Contribute to investment gate decisions (FID, RtB) by ensuring contractual and commercial readiness

Supplier Development & Governance
Build and manage a qualified supplier base while considering:

• Local market realities
• B-BBEE requirements
• Internal compliance policies

Ensure adherence to governance structures, including:

• Supplier Code of Conduct
• Documentation standards
• Risk escalation protocols
• Participate in supplier performance reviews
• Support the implementation of procurement tools and reporting systems

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
• Minimum 8 years’ procurement experience in construction or infrastructure works.
• At least 3 years’ experience in the South African market.
• Proven experience managing tender and contract processes, including EPC, CBoP, and EBoP.
• Familiarity with permitting and local market conditions.
• Strong knowledge of FIDIC/NEC contracts and international procurement standards.
• Fluent in English.
• German language skills advantageous.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Structured, solution-oriented approach.
• Comfortable working with cross-functional and international teams.
• Willingness to travel regularly to project sites and headquarters in Germany.
