Key Performance Areas
Responsible for overseeing the maintenance, engineering, and lifecycle management of medium voltage (MV) electrical infrastructure, with a specialized focus on protection relays and schemes, and variable frequency controllers/ drives (VFC’s/VFD’s) within water and sanitation.
Lead maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of protection systems associated with MV electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, and motors.
Develop and implement maintenance strategies.
Conduct Fault investigations, root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring failures.
Configure, test and commission protection relay systems (Overcurrent, differential, earth fault, etc.) to ensure network reliability and personnel safety.
Perform relay coordination studies and settings adjustments to optimize protection schemes.
Oversee periodic relay testing and ensure compliance with standards.
Manage installation, programming, and maintenance of VFC’s/VFD’s in water/ wastewater applications.
Diagnose and resolve VFC’s/ VFD’s related issues to minimise unplanned downtime.
Prepare technical specifications for new equipment and oversee contractor work.
Provide guidance to junior engineers and technicians on protection systems and VFC’s/ VFD’s operations.
Develop training programs on MV maintenance best practices, relay testing, and VFC’s/ VFD’s troubleshooting.
