BSc Degree/B Tech/Advanced Diploma/National Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering
At least five (5) years’ appropriate post-qualification experience in rehabilitation, maintenance, construction design and management of roads and related infrastructure, especially stormwater in a municipal urban environment
Experience in the management of professional staff will be advantageous
Knowledge of asphalt application, production and/or testing will be advantageous
Experience in contract monitoring will be advantageous
Experience in the road materials engineering field will be advantageous
Excellent analytical abilities, attention to detail, communication and report writing skills
Proficient computer skills
A Code B driver’s licence
Willingness to work after hours, including weekends when required
24/7 contact via cell phone
Must be prepared to work in any of the eight (8) Roads and Stormwater geographical Districts.
Key Performance Areas
Providing the technical framework to Urban Mobility (UM) technical and professional staff, as well as engineering consultants and contractors, engaged in the rehabilitation, maintenance, construction design and management of roads, stormwater, lane markings, signage, street furniture, parking areas, guardrails, handrails, fences and all services ancillary to roads and stormwater
Manage a team of professionals and operations within a district
Training of UM staff to interpret test results on materials and workmanship
Convening and/or facilitating panel inspections of metro and/or local roads
Compilation and management of remedial treatment projects in line with approved budget allocations and prioritisations

Providing technical input into term tenders for goods and services including CIDB, professional and non CIDB (e.g. testing by commercial laboratories)
Compiling procedure manuals and checklists
Conducting research and development of materials, methods and methodologies
Devising, populating and maintaining systems for recording interventions and unit rates
Liaise with depots, contractors and professionals to ensure maintenance programmes and technical standards are in compliance.
