Senior Specialist: Software Engineer at Vodacom

Role Purpose

• The Senior Software Engineer: Sales & Marketing Domain Lead role is based within the Technology Business Unit.
• The Senior Software Engineer: Sales & Marketing domain lead is responsible for owning, leading, and driving software engineering practices in the Sales & Marketing domain within Digital Engineering.
• In this role, you will be providing expert knowledge of prototype creation, module, and solution design for the solutions and technology used in the Sales & Marketing domain, e.g. Catalogue Management, Shopping Carts, Coverage Maps, and Search.
• You will be required to collaborate with other software engineering leads to improve the overall practice of Software Engineering across the delivery organization, ensuring the development and maintenance of highly skilled and motivated practice members.
• This role is also expected to be a DevOps team member and spend at least 25% of the time on activities that contribute to the improvement of the internal open source model, in specific technology practices related to development activities in the Sales & Marketing domain.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

• Leading the application practices and guardrails for the software engineers in the Sales & Marketing domain.
• Organizing interactions between the members of the Practice to nurture best practices and encourage knowledge- & tool-sharing.
• Act as a supporting leader, aiming at maturing the organization's readiness, vs. controlling the work.
• Providing guidance and harmonization of best practices on application methodologies and practices to ensure smooth communication and collaboration.
• Acts as a mentor for the Specialist resources in the Sales & Marketing domain, helping them grow in expertise and experience in application technologies to ensure that they have the skills and knowledge to execute in delivery squads that touch and impact the Sales & Marketing domain.
• Actively promote the internal open source model.

Ideally You Should Possess The Following

• Matric/Grade 12 is essential.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or another related field.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience of which a minimum of three years is in programming and/or systems analysis applying agile frameworks.
• Experience working with agile methodologies, such as Scrum, Kanban, XP, LSD, and FDD.
• Experience working with multiple programming and markup languages, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Java, Ruby, SQL, XML, JSON, YAML, and Python, and paradigms such as object-oriented-, even-driven-, procedural-, functional-, and declarative programming.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture principles.
• Experience working in cloud-native environments.
• Professional Experience And Knowledge Of The Telecommunications Industry Preferred.
• Certified Scrum Developer (CSD) preferred.
• Competency in UX principles and practices preferred.
