    Senior State Accountant: Financial Accounting (2 Posts Available), Ref No. DEDAT 41/2025

    Job Purpose    

    • The Department of Economic Development and Tourism Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to perform, supervise and review the implementation of financial accounting systems and procedures in line with the relevant legislation, regulations, frameworks and departmental policies and procedures.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • An appropriate 3-year National Diploma/ B-Degree (or equivalent qualification)with Financial Accounting or Economics as a major
    • A minimum of 1 year relevant experience required in a Financial Accounting or similar working environment.

    • None.

    Key Performance Areas    

    • Control and management of miscellaneous and transfer payments; Preparation of financial statements and reporting; Collection and recording of revenue and petty cash control; Management of journals; People management.

    Competencies    

    • Knowledge of the following: Financial background (Public Sector Finance recommended; Accounting principles; Public Finance Management Act (PFMA); National Treasury Regulations (NTR); Division of Revenue Act; Departmental instructions and delegations; Basic Accounting Systems; Compilation of Annual Financial Statements
    • It will be advantageous to have a financial background in Public Sector Finance; Prescripts / circulars, legislation and guidelines issued by National / Provincial Treasury.
    • Skills needed: Analytical thinking; Strategic thinking; Communication (written and verbal); Computer literacy; Ability to analyse, conceptualise and implement policy; Presentation; Problem solving; Conflict resolution; People management; Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines; Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Remuneration    

    • R 397 116 - R 467 790 per annum (Salary level 8)
