The Department

The ServerCore team focuses on off-the-shelf software and hardware solutions that are deployed within our environment. Working in this team gives you the exposure to the latest cutting-edge hardware, including advanced all-flash storage arrays and high-end server clusters running Hyper-V or VMware virtualization technologies. We are mostly a Microsoft house and make use of large portions of the Microsoft stack, including Azure and Office365

Purpose Of The Role

Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager, the successful candidate will as an active member of the Server Core team be expected to design and implement core enterprise infrastructure services for DOS. Serving as a Senior Systems Engineer the team, the successful candidate will also offer guidance around decisions of a technical nature and work with the team towards designing solutions that are simple, reliable, highly available and scalable.

Duties Include, But Not Limited To

• Sit frequently with Infrastructure manager and Tech Lead to understand current business requirements
• Translate requirements into technical solutions providing proof of concepts where necessary
• Optimize work process within the Server Core team to ensure DOS’ infrastructure meets the following criteria:
  • Stable
  • Supportable
  • Scalable
  • Highly Available
  • Simple
  • Automated
• Ensure obstacles of a technical nature within the team are quickly eradicated.
• Analyze current infrastructure and actively seek ways to innovate and optimize our systems through self-initiated projects.
• Support and maintain all of DOS’s core hardware infrastructure.
• Ensure monitoring is in place to detect failure or potential failure of all DOS systems including but not limited to Servers, Storage and Data Centre services such as UPS, Air-con and Generators.
• Work closely with other Infrastructure teams to understand their requirements or challenges and match their needs with solutions available.
• Promote the services available from Server Core team to other teams within the DOS Technology team.
• When required work closely with the Enterprise Architect team to facilitate the alignment of future needs with the infrastructure already deployed within DOS
• Where necessary work with the Infrastructure Manager and Tech Lead to plan for needed hardware spends to proactively match all needs of the business.
• Effective use of Jira and Confluence for planning and documentation and driving its usage in the team
• Planning Cloud workload configurations and contributing to our Cloud Adoption Framework
• Maintaining best practice in our use of the Cloud

Essential Criteria

• A Relevant Information Technology tertiary qualification and Microsoft Certifications
• Minimum 8 years’ experience in the Information Technology industry using Microsoft Technologies.
• A Proven track record of Design, implementation and troubleshooting of virtualization technologies.
• Proven first-hand experience working with enterprise grade hardware including Servers, SAN’s, Fibre Channel Switches and other Data Centre Services
   

Job Requirements

• Proven track record of initiating, designing and implementing major infrastructure solutions single handily.
• Proven first-hand experience with networking technologies including Switching, Routing, Firewalling, Load Balancing.
• Proven experience in using scripting or software solutions to automate or reduce administrative work.
• Ability to translate business needs into possible viable technology solutions.
• Project management skills with proven experience in handling big system migrations or implementation working both as a member in a team as well as on his/her own.
