To ensure the efficient operation, maintenance and repair of all technical systems and equipment within the hospital, supporting safe, compliant, and uninterrupted healthcare services.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Serve as the senior technician within the Technical Services Department, providing day-to-day supervision and technical guidance to artisans, handymen and technical assistants.
Coordinate, prioritise, and oversee preventative and corrective maintenance activities to ensure the continuous operation of hospital infrastructure and critical services.
Perform hands-on maintenance, fault finding, and repairs on mechanical systems including pumps, pressure vessels, heat pumps, water reticulation systems, plumbing infrastructure, medical gas systems, generators, and fire protection systems.
Conduct routine inspections of plant rooms, utility systems, and critical equipment to ensure reliability, compliance, and operational readiness.
Monitor contractor performance and ensure all work complies with DOH and hospital standards, safety requirements, and statutory regulations.
Support compliance activities, including statutory inspections, certifications, fire safety requirements, and engineering audits.
Act as a point of technical escalation for equipment failures, maintenance challenges, and operational risks affecting hospital services.
Assist the Technical Manager with maintenance planning, project implementation, asset management, and budget control.
Participate in emergency response activities, standby duties, and business continuity initiatives.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Grade 12 (Matric)
University National Diploma NQF 6 or N6 Diploma + Trade Qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Relevant experience in a maintenance hospital or industry environment.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and diagnostics.
