    SHERQ Officer

    • The SHERQ Officer is responsible for supporting the effective implementation and maintenance of SHERQ systems and processes across designated sites. The role assists in ensuring legal and management system compliance, conducts inspections and audits, participates in incident investigations and risk assessments, tracks corrective actions, and provides guidance and support to site personnel to improve overall SHERQ performance

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    SHERQ Compliance, Governance & Management Systems

    • Conduct SHE inspections to ensure adherence to SHE systems and legislation.
    • Monitor relevant ISO Standards and Integrated Management Systems to ensure effectiveness.
    • Measure and monitor compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and quality regulations and standards.
    • Ensure compliance to incoming contractor documentation and HIRA requirements.
    • Actively participate in developing and implementing site-specific SHEQ initiatives and procedures.
    • Collaborate with site management and ensure SHERQ information is current and visible across sites

    Incident Management, Investigation & Corrective Actions

    • Assist with incident investigations and recommend corrective actions.
    • Ensure accidents are investigated and relevant documentation is completed within prescribed timeframes.
    • Provide support and expertise to line management in incident investigation and reporting.
    • Participate in incident investigations and recommend root causes, corrective actions and lessons learned.
    • Work with finding owners to identify root causes and appropriate corrective actions.
    • Manage corrective actions on the database and track trends in non-compliance.
    • Track investigation findings and drive timely close-out of actions.
    • Conduct root cause and action effectiveness audits.

    Risk Management & Hazard Identification

    • Participate in risk assessments in conjunction with the SHERQ Manager.
    • Facilitate and participate in risk assessments.
    • Proactively identify risks and hazards and recommend mitigation measures.
    • Ensure contractor HIRA compliance.
    • Participate in HAZOP studies and other risk-based activities

    Audit, Inspection & Assurance

    • Conduct prevention inspections and maintain records.
    • Assist sites with preparation for external audits.
    • Conduct comprehensive site inspections and identify/report non-conformances.
    • Participate in audits.
    • Conduct effectiveness reviews and assurance activities.
    • Prepare site inspection reports following visits.

    SHERQ Training, Communication & Culture

    • Conduct SHERQ awareness training.
    • Develop and implement SHERQ communication strategies across all sites.
    • Deliver written communications, toolbox talks and management updates.
    • Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks.
    • Promote a positive safety culture and best practices.
    • Engage with site personnel and management on SHERQ matters

    Operational SHERQ Support & Site Engagement

    • Maintain regular on-site presence according to the visitation schedule.
    • Provide consistent SHERQ support to site personnel and management.
    • Engage regularly with site management to address SHERQ concerns.
    • Participate in safety meetings, emergency drills, and operational SHERQ activities.
    • Discuss site management changes with regional managers and ensure effective close-out of outstanding actions

    Emergency Preparedness & Response

    • Participate in emergency drills.
    • Respond promptly to SHERQ-related emergencies and incidents

    Performance Monitoring, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

    • Compile monthly incident and accident reports.
    • Monitor and analyse SHERQ performance indicators.
    • Prepare and submit SHERQ reports on activities, achievements and challenges.
    • Prepare monthly SHERQ reports.
    • Prepare site activity and inspection reports.
    • Track trends relating to incidents, findings and non-compliance.
    • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement based on performance data

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12
    • National Diploma or Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Management, Risk Management, Quality Management or related discipline.
    • SAMTRAC, NEBOSH or equivalent SHERQ qualification.
    • Internal Auditor (ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and/or ISO 9001) is advantageous 

    Experience:

    • 3 years' experience in a Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality, or Risk Management role.
    • Experience supporting SHERQ compliance and management systems
    • Experience participating in risk assessments, workplace inspections, and incident investigations.
    • Experience assisting with audits and corrective action management.
    • Experience compiling SHERQ reports and maintaining associated records. 
    • Experience facilitating SHERQ awareness activities and engaging with operational teams
