- The FinCore division owns the financial infrastructure and customer experiences behind payments, refunds, credit usage, tokenisation, stored value, reconciliation, and fraud. We're not a fintech incubator dabbling in ideas, and we're not a platform team quietly keeping the lights on. We own these capabilities end to end and are accountable for the systems that reliably scale across every Bash channel.
We're hiring Go Engineers
- FinCore has two teams. Both own customer-facing and backend services, but they solve different problems and suit different engineers.
- Payments: We own the systems that take money, reverse it, and prove afterwards that both happened correctly, across every Bash channel and every payment provider.
- Wallet: We own the systems that provide customers with stored value. A balance customers can hold and spend, with or without credit.
What you'd actually work on
- Real-time, distributed systems where being correct and being fast are both non-negotiable, regardless of the system load.
- Instrumentation good enough to answer "what actually happened here, for this customer" without guessing. Every meaningful state change is its own event with its own timestamp, because the next decision reads through it.
- Payment flows where correctness is not negotiable. Authorisation, capture, refund and settlement across multiple providers, each with its own idea of what a timeout means. Retries, idempotency and partial failure are routine here, not edge cases.
- Reconciliation. Matching what we think happened against what the provider, the bank and the ledger think happened.
- Credit origination against external systems where a single call can take tens of seconds, a customer is waiting on the other end, and duplicate submissions carry regulatory consequences.
- The road to a spendable balance. Funding a balance, holding it, controlling where it can be spent, and the refund paths that have to exist alongside it. Some of this is unbuilt and some of the design questions are still open, you'll help form this.
The Stack
- Go for backend services.
- Around it: AWS, CloudFlare, Kubernetes, Temporal, Redis, RDS, Prometheus, Sentry.
- Internal tools and admin surfaces are built in Retool, and we plan and track work in Linear.
You'll fit well if you have
- 4+ years building production backend systems, ideally in Go - or you're strong in another language (Java, C#, Python, Node, Rust, whatever) and keen to go deep on Go.
- A real curiosity about distributed systems - consistency, failure modes, and what happens at 2am when one node disagrees with the rest. You don't need to have all the answers here yet. You do need to find the questions interesting.
- The ability to take a feature and drive it to completion. You can break it down, spot the ambiguity, ask the right person the right question, and ship.
- A habit of writing code others can live with. Well-tested, readable, debuggable. You give useful code review feedback, not just an approve button.
- A bias toward observability and monitoring - you'd rather know than guess. You care whether the thing you shipped actually worked, and you know how to check.
- Clear communication. You can explain a technical trade-off, flag a delay before it becomes a surprise, and write a runbook that saves the next person a day.
- An instinct to understand why before building the how - you'd rather help steer a solution than wait for one to arrive.
- Comfort with agentic coding tools, but you still read and validate everything "you" commit.
- A BSc in Computer Science (or equivalent) is a nice-to-have, not a gate. Strong, demonstrable experience speaks louder.
How we work
We're a cross-functional, agile team, but we care less about ceremony and more about how engineers actually operate day to day:
- You run your own day. You manage your own work, unblock yourself where you can, and shout early and clearly when you can't.
- You build to last. Resilient, maintainable, observable. You hold a high bar on testing and code review - and you'll be surrounded by people who hold it too, which is the fastest way to raise your own.
- You share the load. That includes pitching in on operational work and an on-call rotation for critical alerts - because the people who built the systems are the people best placed to keep them healthy. We take on-call seriously and it’s our job to not make it miserable.
- You get better, and you help others get better. We rotate on solution ownership, we collaborate within and across teams, we take part in engineering Guild sessions, we write RFCs, we mentor where it’s welcomed.
- You'll know what "next" looks like. We have a progression framework and growth is a conversation, not a guessing game.

We're hiring Go Engineers across various teams
You'll be placed where your strengths and interests line up best:
- Catalogue - the front door for every product TFG sells. This team owns the pipelines that take raw catalogue data from dozens of brands and turn it into clean, structured, sellable product data - every image, spec, price, and variant on the site starts life here.
- Discovery & Shop - the online shopping experience: search, PDP, PLP, and everything else that turns "just browsing" into "add to cart." This is where relevance ranking, real-time stock, and page speed all have to work together, or the sale is lost.
- Cart, Checkout & Post Purchase - carrying the customer from cart to confirmed order and everything after: checkout journeys, delivery promises, order tracking, notifications, and returns. We stop just short of payments - everything else on that journey is ours.
What you'd actually work on
- Search and discovery systems that have to be relevant and fast at the same time. Every keystroke, filter, and scroll hits live stock and pricing, not yesterday's cache, across the hundreds of millions of shopping sessions Bash sees a year.
- Event-driven pipelines (we lean heavily on Kafka) that keep product data in sync across 200+ brands' worth of catalogue. Every price change, image upload, and spec update has to land correctly downstream, or it's wrong on the site within minutes.
- Cart and checkout logic where "close enough" isn't good enough - vouchers, promos, and pricing have to work identically across web, app, and in-store checkout, because a rounding error here is real money in the wrong pocket.
- Integrations with external systems - the kind that don't expose clean APIs and don't care about your sprint.
- Post-purchase tooling people actually rely on: order tracking, delivery promise dates, and the notifications that keep customers in the loop, shaped by real usage rather than what looks good in a spec doc.
The Stack
- Go is our primary backend language, and we mean it - this isn't a "we have one Go service" job. Around it: AWS, Kubernetes, and a strong observability culture (you build it, you can see it, you own it). Internal tools and admin surfaces are built in Retool, and we plan and track work in Linear. You won't be reaching for new tech for its own sake, but you also won't be fighting a decade of legacy to ship something sensible.
You'll fit well if you have
- 5+ years building production backend systems, ideally in Go - or you're strong in another language (Java, C#, Python, Node, Rust, whatever) and genuinely keen to go deep on Go. We hire for engineering ability, not language trivia.
- Solid instincts for databases, data structures, and algorithms, and real curiosity about distributed systems - consistency, failure modes, and what happens at 2am when one node disagrees with the rest. You don't need to have all the answers here yet. You do need to find the questions interesting.
- The ability to take a feature and drive it to done. You can break it down, spot the ambiguity, ask the right person the right question, and ship. You'll have senior engineers to lean on for the gnarliest calls - knowing when to lean is part of the skill.
- A habit of writing code others can live with. Well-tested, readable, debuggable. You give useful code review feedback, not just an approve button.
- A bias toward observability and monitoring - you'd rather know than guess. You care whether the thing you shipped actually worked, and you know how to check.

How we work
We're a cross-functional, Agile team, but we care less about ceremony than about how engineers actually operate day to day:
- You own your work. Senior here means you remove ambiguity from your own tickets, shape the solution, and drive it to done - not wait to be told.
- You build to last. Resilient, maintainable, observable. You hold a high bar on testing and code review, and you lift it by example, so the team ships solutions that don't page anyone six months from now.
- You share the load. That includes pitching in on operational work and an on-call rotation for critical alerts - because the people who built the systems are the people best placed to keep them healthy. We take on-call seriously and we don't make it miserable.
- You build relationships with other engineers, product managers, and the wider org. The best supply-chain engineers are the ones people want in the room.
- You make the team better. Senior is a leadership level here. You mentor without being asked, spot gaps and bring solutions, and set a technical bar others want to meet.

- Help build the financial backbone behind one of South Africa's largest omnichannel transformations. The FinCore division owns the financial infrastructure and customer experiences behind payments, refunds, credit usage, tokenisation, stored value, reconciliation, and fraud. We're not a fintech incubator dabbling in ideas, and we're not a platform team quietly keeping the lights on. We own these capabilities end to end and are accountable for the systems that reliably scale across every Bash channel.
- You'll lead a cross-functional engineering team responsible for FinCore's financial capabilities. A team usually consists of 5-7 full-stack engineers across backend, web, and mobile, a Team Lead, a Technical Lead and a Product Manager. You'll own your team's people, delivery, and the long-term health of the systems they build. You’ll report to the Engineering Director for FinCore.
What we mean by "Lead"
- You get to see the front. This is not a role where you trade your IDE for a calendar. We're an action-oriented, sleeves-rolled-up business. We expect our leads to contribute to the products they oversee: dig into the codebase, own the dashboards, and jump into incidents with the team. A well-run team should leave you time to do meaningful technical planning and architecting, while still getting the opportunity to write code.
- You lead from the back. We want engineers who own their scope, their planning, and their technical decisions. You help set direction, remove obstacles, and step-in with experience when the team is genuinely off track. Empower first; dictate rarely. The fastest way to fail is to act as a glorified Scrum Master: running ceremonies and refining tickets, while the team waits to be told what to do.
- You're the team's champion. When the team is under scrutiny from up the chain, you’re there to take the heat. When the team succeeds, you give them the credit. It’s your job to carefully manage expectations, make hard decisions, and advocate for your team and the products they build.
- You fix root causes, not symptoms. We'd rather eliminate a whole class of incidents than repeatedly patch the same one. We expect you to push the team toward durable system health: balancing feature work, operations, and risk. Team velocity must survive contact with reality.
- You're one half of a leadership pair. Every team is led jointly: you and your Product Manager counterpart. Product owns the problem: the priorities, the direction, and the why. You own the how: delivery, execution, technical quality, and team health. Neither of you runs the team alone, and the strongest teams are the ones where that partnership actually works. Priorities and sequencing will sometimes pull in different directions. That's when the partnership is tested.
What you'd own
- People. Growth and development of each engineer: regular 1-1s, honest feedback, career plans, and creating the kind of environment where people do their best work, grow, and want to stay.
- Delivery. Turn priorities into a plan the team can execute: breaking initiatives into tech specs and tickets with the team, sequencing the work, and driving it to completion, without becoming the bottleneck. Coordinate with fellow leads where work crosses team lines.
- Technical standards. Advocating for engineering excellence with a pragmatic, product-aware lens. Real code reviews, sound architecture, no rubber-stamping.
- Operations. A fair, robust on-call rotation (which you periodically take part in, to stay close to the team's day-to-day pain), strong incident response, and post-mortems that actually produce action.
You'll fit well if you have
- A track record of leading a team to high-quality output, with a genuine focus on enabling the people in it. Roughly 5+ years engineering experience and 2+ years leading a team or projects.
- A history of writing high-quality, scalable code in a modern, statically typed language. Go is our primary backend language. We don't require prior Go experience (strong engineers pick it up fast), but we do expect a solid grasp of architectural patterns for both systems and code.
- Real, hands-on experience building and operating distributed, high-transaction, highly available systems in production. Familiarity with Kafka and/or Temporal is a bonus.
- Genuine commitment to observability and monitoring: you want your team to know, not guess, how their services behave.
- Strong communication and a collaborative instinct: you make decisions with data, hold opinions loosely enough to change them, share your thinking early and often, and welcome feedback as readily as you give it.
- A BSc in Computer Science (or equivalent) is encouraged but not required. Strong, demonstrable experience speaks louder.

We're hiring Senior Go Engineers across various teams
You'll be placed where your strengths and interests line up best:
- Order Management - orchestrating the order through its entire lifecycle, from checkout reservation to handoff, keeping state consistent across systems that don't always agree with each other.
- Fulfillment - the pick-and-pack brains behind our warehouses and hubs, plus the integrations with the warehouse and carrier systems that move stock in the real world.
- Logistics - routing, tracking, and delivery, including BashDelivery, our in-house courier.
- Internal Apps (aka “Supply Chain Applications”) - This team builds the front-ends used by store, warehouse, and hub staff, nationwide. As a Go engineer in this team you’ll build backends hand-in-hand with the Flutter engineers building the front-ends.
What you'd actually work on
- Real-time stock and reservation systems where being correct and being fast are both non-negotiable, regardless of the system load. Expect to see thousands of orders per hour.
- Event-driven services that keep order state in sync across warehouses, carriers, and third-party logistics platforms. We use Kafka and Temporal extensively.
- Integrations with messy external systems (couriers, WMS, partners) - the kind that don't have clean APIs and don't care about your sprint.
- Tooling and operational systems that store and warehouse staff actually use every day, so the feedback loop is short and very real. Millions of parcels a year flow through our hubs.
You'll fit well if you have
- 5+ years building production backend systems, primarily in Go (or you're a strong engineer in another language who's genuinely keen to go deep on Go).
- Solid instincts for databases, data structures, and algorithms, and a real interest in distributed systems - consistency, failure modes, and what happens at 2am when one node disagrees with the rest.
- Comfort owning your services end-to-end: writing them, deploying them on AWS and Kubernetes, and being the person who knows how they behave in production.
- A bias toward observability and monitoring - you'd rather know than guess.
- Strong written and verbal communication, because the hard part of Supply Chain is rarely the code in isolation; it's the seams between teams and systems.
- You’re comfortable leveraging agentic coding tools, but you still read and validate everything “you” commit.
- A BSc in Computer Science (or equivalent) is a nice-to-have, not a gate. Strong, demonstrable experience speaks louder.
