    Social Worker: GBV Prevention Unit ( Alice Campus)

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Master’s degree in social work with at least 5 years post-qualifying experience as a practicing clinician.
    • Current registration with South African Council of Social Services Professionals for Social Workers (SACSSP).
    • Ability to communicate with high level of metalinguistic specifically in Xhosa (Please state language proficiency in application).
    • Experience of counselling survivors of GBV.
    • Valid SA Driver’s license.

    Added Advantages:

    • Specialisation in Clinical social work.
    • Experience of counselling in a tertiary setting will be an advantage. 

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Implement the university’s GBV policy framework, develop & implement other related policies.
    • Clinical counselling provided to survivors/victims of sexual harassment.
    • Education and awareness campaigns for prevention of GBV.
    • Consultation services provided as well as liaison with relevant stakeholders. 
    • Ability to plan, implement interventions and programmes with and on behalf of individuals, groups, communities based on sound theory and research.
    • Preparedness to work irregular hours.
    • Flexibility to travel across campuses (Alice, East London and Bisho).

    • Skills and sensitivity to engage students and staff on matters of mental health in forums and similar settings.
    • Teamwork and sound interpersonal relationship skills. 
    • Conflict resolution and problem solving. 
    • Able to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing; including drafting strategic research documents tailored appropriately for different audiences.
