Specialist Engineer (Hv Projects) at eThekwini Municipality

Job Purpose    

• Directs professional engineering requirements and procedures to support functional areas within the department through participation in the prioritisation or alignment of the key performance areas to support strategic intent.

Key Responsibility Areas    

• Studies, evaluates and prepares opinions on the capabilities of the department to support strategic intent in terms of engineering infrastructure development and maintenance.
• Manages the principles and applications associated with the development and presentation of technical design for complex forms of a variety of engineering works relating to the Departments area of responsibility including the compilation of technical codes of practice.
• Disseminates information on the professional and technical aspects of engineering design concepts and provides reports detailing interventions and outcomes relating to a variety of complex forms of engineering works.
• Executes delegated responsibilities in respect of leading professional project teams from inception to completion and contributes to the identification and development of key professional engineering skills.
• Manages procedures associated with the preparation and collation of contract documentation and evaluating tender applications for a variety of complex engineering works relating to the Department, including the development of life cycle cost models.
• Assumes the responsibility of ‘Engineer on Site’ and directs professionals in respect of
• Council’s requirements and general conditions of contract.
• Manages the Departments responsibilities associated with the development and execution of an Asset Management Plan that supports the broader Unit strategy.
• Defines appropriate standards and controls the implementation/ outcomes of a variety of complex forms of Engineering contracts.

Essential Requirements    

• Bachelor of Science (NQF Level 8) in Electrical Engineering.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
• Valid motor vehicle driving license
• 7 Years post registration experience
