Job Description    

• Novus Media is seeking a dynamic Sports Editor to lead our sports coverage with a special focus on school rugby and the creation of a dedicated school rugby hub. This role blends editorial excellence with strategic vision, driving both audience growth and commercial performance. You’ll ensure our sports content is timely, accurate, engaging, and aligned with revenue and advertising goals, while positioning our platform as the go-to destination for school rugby coverage.

Key Duties and Responsibilities    

• Lead the planning, production, and quality control of all sports content, with a strategic emphasis on school rugby.
• Develop and grow a comprehensive school rugby hub featuring news, match reports, player profiles, rankings, and multimedia coverage.
• Manage, mentor, and motivate sports writers, reporters, and photographers.
• Assign, edit, and produce compelling stories across digital and multimedia platforms. Stay ahead of sports news, trends, and live events to deliver competitive coverage, especially in the school rugby space.
• Collaborate with commercial teams to develop content strategies that boost readership and advertiser engagement, including sponsorship opportunities tied to school rugby.
• Monitor performance metrics (traffic, engagement, conversions) and adjust strategy to meet commercial targets.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with coaches, schools, players, unions, and sports stakeholders.
• Uphold ethical journalism and brand standards.

Educational Requirements    

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, or related field.

Experience Requirements    

• Code 8 driver’s license.
• Proven track record in delivering high-quality sports content and meeting audience/commercial KPIs.
• Strong leadership, editing, and multimedia storytelling skills.
• Proficiency with CMS, SEO best practices, and analytics tools.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
• Deep knowledge of a wide range of sports and current trends.

Skills and Competencies    

• Excellent communication and writing skills in both Afrikaans and English
