State Law Advisor: Legislature, Ref No. DOTP 41/2022 at Western Cape Government

Job Purpose    
The Department of the Premier has an opportunity for a legally qualified person, preferably with legislative drafting experience, to be part of a dynamic team who are responsible for the legislative drafting needs of the Western Cape Government (Provincial Executive and all the provincial departments). This post is based in Cape Town.

Minimum Requirements    

• LLB-Degree with admission as an Advocate or Attorney;
• LP 7: A minimum of 5 years' appropriate practical post qualification legal experience;
• LP 8: A minimum of 9 years' appropriate practical post qualification legal experience.

Recommendation    

• Proven experience in a legal advisory capacity; General experience in parliamentary processes; Proven experience in research methods and computer literacy.

Key Performance Areas    

• Researching, formulating, drafting and editing legislation; Commenting on draft legislation; Providing legal advice; Scrutinising, drafting and editing legal documents; 

Competencies    

• Knowledge in the following: Excellent legal writing and legislative drafting skills;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape Province of which one must be English;
• Knowledge of Constitutional and Administrative Law and Interpretation of Statutes;
• Well developed innovative problem-solving and analytical skills; Sound organising and planning skills.

Remuneration    

• LP 7: All-inclusive salary package of R 774 660 per annum;
• LP 8: All-inclusive salary package of R 912 501per annum (OSD as prescribed).
