    Superintendent Technician SR

    Minimum Required Qualification:

    • Completed project management diploma and maintenance certification.
    • Certification in PLC/DCS and HMI systems.
    • Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering -Process control instrumentation

    The Appointee should:

    • Trade Certificate - Electrical and or Instrumentation
    • Computer literacy
    • Medically fit to work in the specific business area.
    • Clear security screening record.
    • Valid driver’s license (if applicable).
    • At least 2 years as an Instrumentation Supervisor or Snr Instrumentation Technician within a mineral processing, mining, and precious metal refining or pyro metallurgical plant.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Focus on safe production, Operational & Work Process functionality Operational Project Support Control Solution support to projects (HAZOP studies, POC reviews, FAT and SAT) Evaluate and make recommendations on C & I design and engineering during various phases of project related work. Verify and make corrective recommendations to C & I design documents and Drawings (P & I D’s, Loop Drawings, motor, equipment and I/O lists) Operational support Monitor and advise on the settings of machinery to optimise performance. Develop control systems algorithms to provide solutions to resolve process problems. Provide technical solutions/improvements for problematic control equipment and unstable process control systems. System trouble shooting and hardware problems resolution Provide Support on existing instrumentation, networks and hardware. New release software and hardware testing and implementation. Review updated plant & machinery control philosophy documents for correctness. Analyse advance Process control (APC) and PID loop performance and optimization of tuning parameters Analyse and review any software changes to mitigate operation risk. Regular testing and roll back of disaster recovery procedures on control and HMI systems. Develop and implement Service level agreements and Parts agreements scopes of work for the implementation of contracts. Identify and Participation in improvement projects. Identify and Develop Mitigation actions to proactively manage and control (risks) threats to the area of responsibility. Initiate, plan and oversee the upgrade and improvements of C&I systems infrastructure and software (PLC hardware, IO Modules, control programmed.)
    • Maintenance, Construction & Equipment Availability Planned Maintenance Analyse and review planned maintenance performances Oversee critical spares stock levels is identified and maintained. Audit updated C&I documentations for correctness (Loop drawings, IO schedules, etc.) Workmanship and Quality Conduct regular audits and over inspections on C&I field equipment, HMI and Control logic software to ensure compliance to standards, specifications and operational functional specifications. Monitoring of process and process controls systems on regular bases to ensure conformance to the prescribed standards. Maintain discipline through cheering of C & I related corrective action cases.
    • Administration & Reporting Attend or conduct required meetings in line of deliverables (Strategic, Project & Operational) Develop, update and align C & I governance requirements (Standards, Specifications, SOP, Procedures, Audit criteria) Adhere to document control standards and procedures. Evaluate, ensure accuracy and quality of documentation, reports and Certificates. Prepare ad-hoc reports for relevant stakeholders when required. Develop 2-to-3-year C & I related business plans (Capital) for area of responsibility Develop and implement Service level agreements and Parts agreements scopes of work for the implementation of contracts.
    • Operation Recommend: Identify high risk and safety critical areas pertaining to C & I Identify and make recommendation to equipment and process optimization Identify equipment or areas of poor availability Compliance to instrumentation guidelines Changes to the control philosophies Agree: Changes in the control solution or strategy based on process requirements Changes in the control solution or strategy as a result of standardisation Changes in the control solution or strategy based on risk identified Changes in the quality of system Input: Audit protocol criteria Training course content review C & I Procedures, Standards and Specifications Technical solutions/improvements for problematic control equipment Root causes failure analysis, ICAM investigations and 5 Why process. C & I strategy Project related design and review Execute: Control Solution support to projects Disseminate best practice in instrumentation aspects Audit high risk and safety critical areas Implement corrective action for areas of instability Analyse and identify problems on the current control systems and maintenance activities System trouble shooting and hardware problems resolution Support on existing instrumentation, networks and hardware Oversee quality of calibration and maintenance of all equipment within the control applications Review and approve modifications to the control solution Assist with commissioning for onsite projects
    • Stakeholder Relations Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and cross-functionally. Engage with internal and external stakeholders on C & I strategic initiatives Ensuring open communication channels with all relevant stakeholders. Sourcing, contracting and negotiating with service providers. Liaising with the necessary entities on any environmental management related requirements and alignment where applicable. Collaborating with external service providers regarding the design and implementation of tools to enhance processes. Financial Management Working Cost Budgets: Formulating monthly and annual budgets. Provide input and oversee the management and control of C&I engineering budgets within parameters Cost Savings: Leading and driving C & I related cost saving and cash conservation initiatives Building a values-based organisational culture Actively support and meaningfully participate in the execution of the segment specific organisational development plan. This support will manifest in the targeted shift in culture as described by a valid culture assessment. Communicate effectively with various managers and team members in area of responsibility Identify potential conflict situations and minimize the implications Respect and manage cultural diversity Action talent management initiatives for team members (performance review, talent review etc). Ensure team members have an Individual Development Plan Support and participate in the training and development of training requirements of C & I trainees, interns and C & I practisers Create opportunities for development through participation and involvement in new business or technology enhancement projects for team members.
    • ESG Compliance SA PGM Operations: Objective: Enhance Together for Sustainability (eTfS) initiative. Align to international responsible mining principles. Support the management team to adhere to international responsible mining principles. Establish change management systems and ensure that it's being adhered to Provide input, develop detail C & I requirements and oversee the implementation of Energy and resource reduction to adhere to strategic targets. Analyse and Monitor energy reports to early identify measurement system errors. Ensure systems is in place to provide accurate measurements and instrumentation for the reporting of water, energy and environmental emissions requirements. Identify carbon footprint reduction opportunities within the C & I areas. SHE Compliance SHE Management: Instil a culture of SHE leadership within the department. Participate in regional/local bodies and decision-making forums in the process developing a business relevant external environment, that will result in the longer-term sustainability of the Division. Develop standards operating procedures for the C & I environment for the safe maintenance activities related to Control & Instrumentation Maintain and comply with SHE standards within the work environment. Participate in risk assessments, investigate, and take appropriate action as per identified risks. Ensure the necessary risk assessments are in place for all aspects of the C&I systems used within the area of responsibility Ensure C&I compliance to SHEC and legal requirements Conduct safety audits relating to C&I systems Conduct Planed Task and Critical Task Observation to ensure coaching, development of subordinates Ensure compliance to regulatory requirements pertaining to all hazardous instrumentation devices /areas as well as the proper storage there off (e.g., radioactive equipment). Ensure elimination of all safety hazards related to C & I Quality Management System (QMS): Approve department’s documents. Comply with requirements of the Quality Management System.
    • People Management Recruitment: Participation in the recruitment of the required personnel within the C & I environment and make recommendations to Operational, management teams. Review and propose labour plans around operational targets pertaining to C & I Performance Management: Provide leadership and inspire team members towards high performance. Manage performance and development of reporting staff. Set the specific Operations’ discipline performance targets and criteria that align with organisational goals for the team. Employee Relations: Drive the Organisational Culture and Climate within the Business Unit to ensure achievement of organisational objectives and employee safety. Training and Development: Drive a culture of Learning and Continuous Improvement within the specific Operation to ensure achievement of organisational objectives and safety. Provide leadership and inspire team members towards high performance. Mentor individuals to enhance the individual`s knowledge, skills, values and attitude. Create opportunities for development through participation and involvement in new business or technology enhancement projects for team members. Provide coaching to team members on an ongoing basis. Succession planning Transformation & Sustainability: Drive a culture of Transformation within the specific Operation to ensure organisational sustainability.
