    Technology Analyst Engineering - Sandton

    Purpose of Job

    Creating technology for a specific process objective is indeed a substantial investment, requiring considerable time and resources. Nevertheless, the potential rewards are immeasurable and can significantly increase a company’s value. However, when resource or time constraints are in play, choosing to analyse and select a suitable technology that achieves the same objective can be a more cost-effective approach.

    In the Sasol R&T Future Technologies department, our mission is to identify, assess, develop technology options, and safeguard innovations, advancements vital for Sasol’s sustainable future. The technology analyst plays a pivotal role in recognizing and evaluating emerging and closely related technologies that are indispensable to Sasol’s transformative path towards decarbonization.

    Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

    • Analyse and evaluate small start-ups and large corporate technology offerings to assess their technology maturity, value proposition, and competitiveness relative to alternative technologies.
    • Conduct technology landscape studies that screen emerging and adjacent technologies relevant to Sasol’s transformation ambition. Determine technology suitability for desired applications through high-level technological comparisons.
    • Track global technology developments to inform threats and opportunities for Sasol. Stay up to date with emerging technologies and market trends.

    Formal Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemical engineering and advanced degree preferred.

    Min Experience

    A minimum of 5 years of pertinent experience in research and development or technology selection, which includes the consideration of a postgraduate degree as part of the experience, is required. Having work experience in technologies related to the following process objectives would be advantageous:

    • The Production and Storage of Renewable Energy
    • The Production, Storage, and Transportation of Hydrogen
    • The Conversion of Biomass
    • Capture, Utilization, and Sequestration of Carbon
