    Toolroom Supervisor

    Job Description

    • We are looking for an experienced Toolroom Supervisor to oversee plastic moulding toolroom operations and provide hands-on mould maintenance support.
    • The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining mould integrity, minimising production downtime, supervising staff, and ensuring effective maintenance and continuous improvement within the toolroom.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Supervise toolroom operations and human resources.
    • Minimise mould-related machine downtime in plastic moulding operations.
    • Conduct effective and timely mould fault finding and rectification.
    • Identify faults and recommend improvements.
    • Conduct regular mould inspections and servicing.
    • Plan and organise departmental resources effectively.
    • Perform assigned maintenance tasks and ensure completion of job cards.
    • Ensure scheduled maintenance is completed by subordinates.
    • Identify and implement maintenance improvements.
    • Liaise with external vendors and contractors.
    • Assist with new mould procurement, preparation, installation and modifications.
    • Assist with major and minor mould repairs.
    • Monitor mould condition and recommend future rectification requirements.
    • Ensure availability and effective management of maintenance spares.
    • Liaise with stores regarding stock levels and improvements.
    • Maintain high housekeeping standards.
    • Support management systems including Pragma, ISO 9001, NOSA and WCM.
    • Adhere to and enforce workplace safety procedures and legislation.
    • Assist in developing and improving departmental procedures.
    • Coach and mentor less experienced artisans and maintenance personnel.
    • Inspect completed work and provide technical guidance where required.
    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

    Requirements

    • Matric / Grade 12.
    • Trade Tested Toolmaker – N3 qualification required.
    • Minimum 10 years' continuous experience in a mould maintenance environment.
    • Minimum 10 years' experience within a plastic injection moulding production environment.
    • Minimum 5 years' supervisory experience.
    • Strong technical and analytical skills.
    • Proven problem-solving ability.
    • Strong supervisory, organising and delegation skills.
    • Hands-on approach to maintenance and fault finding.
    • Good knowledge of plant safety procedures.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with external vendors and contractors.
    • Ability to work with limited supervision.
    • Strong attention to detail and good time management.
    • Willingness to work overtime and weekends when required.
