    Funda Wande is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to ensure that all learners in South Africa can read for meaning and calculate with confidence in their home language by the age of 10. We develop video and print materials to train teachers. All our materials are freely available and are Creative Commons licensed, so anyone can use them.

    Training Facilitator

    Objectives of Role    

    Training and development

    • Train and develop the Foundation Phase Teachers and teacher interns through the use of Funda
    • Wande Website, APP and Reading Academy, training materials.
    • Conduct all termly training workshops.
    • Provide coordination and administrative support to Foundation Phase teams on, e.g., Funda Wande
    • Website, APP and Reading Academy, etc.
    • Develop educator’s knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional
    • development targeted topics provided by Funda Wande.
    • Have in-depth knowledge about the CAPS to ensure that high quality training prepared and delivered
    • with full alignment to the curriculum.

    Monitoring and Support

    • Provide guidance on how to make use of literacy and math’s materials (both print and videos).
    • Quarterly visit schools to observe how Funda Wande materials are utilized.
    • Provide technical support to Grade R to 3 teachers on Funda Wande website and the Rhodes APP.
    • Assist teachers with the use of resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning.
    • Conduct monthly lesson observations and provide feedback for teachers’ practice development.
    • Help with execution of other related tasks as assigned by the line manager and other members in the

    Management team.

    • Quarterly compiles training and monitoring reports and submit to specialists for consolidation before
    • sharing with stakeholders in the districts, province and Head of Programmes unit.
    • Analyze, and interpret data from the training workshops as well as the schools.

    Stakeholder Liaison

    • Coordinate the compilation of the Limpopo Intervention’s stakeholder database.
    • Liaise with relevant stakeholders regarding relevant activities related to the intervention.
    • Assist the Specialists on following through on queries and activities at schools across the Limpopo

    Province.

    • Develop and maintain professional relationships with teacher interns, teachers and school management teams, and all other relevant stakeholders within circuit and district levels.

    Material Development

    • Takes part in the development of Literacy and Math’s materials (print and videos).
    • Give input and assist with reviews of Literacy and Math’s materials (print and videos).
    • Have in-depth knowledge about the CAPS to ensure that high quality materials are developed with full alignment to the curriculum. 

    Experience and Qualifications    

    Knowledge and Experience:

    • Sound knowledge/experience in training, planning, and writing reports.
    • Sound knowledge and experience in Foundation Phase education and understanding of how children learn.
    • Basic skills and experience in translation, editing and proof reading of materials.
    • Good oral and written communication, presentation, and reporting skills.
    • Proven ability to provide administration support to a diverse team.
    • Good knowledge and understanding of key aspects of development work within the Foundation education sector.
    • Experience in monitoring processes and systems in new and rapidly growing organizations.
    • Highly computer literate, ideally familiar with Microsoft Office, Slack, Dropbox, Google Suite, or equivalents.
    • Model passion for lifelong learning, continual improvement and apply new learnings.
    • Work cooperatively and effectively with others.
    • Professional working Proficiency in Sepedi and English.

    Qualifications/Other Requirements:

    • Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase or any relevant qualification.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in teaching and working within philanthropy or development sector.
    • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience teaching Foundation Phase (Sepedi and English) will be an added advantage.
