Woolpert Africa, based in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa, offers extensive high accuracy lidar, imagery and remote sensing experience, as well as airborne topographic, hyper spectral, and thermal survey and mapping. We provide mapping services for engineering, infrastructure, mining, mapping, agriculture, and environmental sectors in more than 45 African countries.
We are now excited to be adding a transportation team who will focus on roadway and transportation design!

Because of our growth, we are seeking a Transportation Team Lead in Johannesburg to lead our Roadway, Bikeway and Trail design team. This includes projects across various sectors including Department of Transportation (DOT), municipal, federal, military, and private development. The type of work will also vary, but with a concentration on roadway and transportation design.
Essential Functions:
- Will be responsible for a staff of licensed professional engineers and engineers in training (EIT) with group growth expected
- Establishes employee performance goals, provides regular feedback and works with assigned technical team members to achieve individual goals.
- Mentors and coaches their direct reports.
- Able to direct engineering work to staff and assist when needed.
- Able to run civil engineering projects including: staffing, schedules, budgets.
- Able to assist with design and plan production as required.
- Able to perform quality reviews on engineering plans.
- Communicates with the Transportation Market Practice Leaders and Project Managers on technical staff resource planning and ensures team resource planning is maintained.
- Runs weekly resource planning meeting and communicates, directs, and delegates execution of technical tasks to and among technical team members.
- Communicates issues affecting technical work quality, project schedule, or budget and escalates unresolved issues to a higher level as needed.
- Clarifies performance expectations of deliverables.
- Identifies plan vs. actual performance variances. Provides monthly reporting of resource planning, percent completes, budget dollar variance and market communications.
- Coordinate with the South Region Transportation market leadership.
Required Qualification/Experience:
- BS Degree in Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer
- 12-15+ years’ experience in civil/transportation design
- PS&E Preparation Process (regardless of client); utilizing AutoCAD or MicroStation
- Civil 3D or Open Roads Designer 3D modeling
