    Tutors – Bachelor of Education (Foundation Phase Teaching)

    Job Description

    • Lyceum College invites applications from qualified and passionate individuals to serve as Tutors for the Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching programme.
    • This role is integral to supporting student success in a distance learning environment through academic guidance, student engagement, tutorial facilitation, assessment support, and student wellness initiatives.

    Subject Areas

    We are currently seeking tutors for the following modules:

    • Academic Literacy 
    • English 1 
    • Conversational Afrikaans 
    • Conversational isiZulu 
    • Conversational Sesotho 
    • Mathematics 1 
    • Life Skills 1 
    • Critical Thinking 
    • Afrikaans 1 
    • Teaching Practice 1 and 2 

    Key Responsibilities

    Successful applicants will be required to:

    • Facilitate one online tutorial session per month for allocated modules.
    • Provide academic support and guidance to students.
    • Mark tutorial activities and provide constructive developmental feedback.
    • Conduct student wellness check-ins and identify students who may require additional support.
    • Respond to student queries within agreed turnaround times.
    • Monitor student participation and engagement.
    • Maintain accurate records of tutorial attendance and student interactions.
    • Collaborate with module coordinators and academic staff to support student success.
    • Adhere to institutional policies, procedures, and academic standards.

    Requirements
    Required Competencies

    Applicants must demonstrate:

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to engage and motivate students in an online learning environment.
    • Sound knowledge of student-centred teaching and learning practices.
    • Effective time management and organisational skills.
    • Ability to provide constructive academic feedback.
    • Competence in the use of digital learning platforms and educational technologies.
    • Commitment to student success and academic excellence.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A Bachelor of Education Honours (BEd Honours) qualification in a relevant field.
    • Experience in teaching, tutoring, facilitation, or academic support within higher education or school environments.
    • Strong subject matter knowledge in the relevant discipline.
    • Access to a computer and reliable internet connectivity.
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

    Added Advantage

    • Experience in distance or online education.
    • Experience facilitating tutorials in higher education.
    • Registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE).
    • Postgraduate qualifications beyond BEd Honours.

    Workload

    • One tutorial session per month per allocated module.
    • Marking of tutorial activities and assessments.
    • Student wellness check-ins and academic support activities.
