    Legal Counsel

    Key Purpose

    • Providing the highest quality legal advice to relevant internal and external stakeholders regarding all legal related matters to minimize risk of the organization.

    Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to

    • Attend to and timeously resolve complaints on behalf of Discovery Life, Discovery Invest and the Discovery Retirement Funds to ensure the best possible outcome for these entities
    • Pro-active analysis of legislation, regulatory updates and research on legal matters to ensure the best possible outcome for the various entities
    • Providing sound legal advice to the different business units to ensure decisions are correct and justifiable
    • Preparation of Legal publications, legal updates and guidance notes to business
    • Review of Fund documentation, marketing brochures, publications, policy wordings etc. from a legal perspective
    • Preparation of agenda packs for board of trustee meetings and sub-committees’ meetings
    • Participation in Board of Trustees’ meetings and capturing accurate minutes
    • Fulfil the role of Monitoring Person in respect of sound corporate governance for retirement funds including oversight of S13A breaches and S14 transfers
    • Providing first line compliance support in respect of the duties of the Funds’ Principal Officer
    • Providing oversight on the drafting of General and Special Rules for the Funds
    • The investigation of death claims and providing recommendations to the Death Claims sub- committee
    • Drafting responses to complaints received via the Pension Funds Adjudicator
    • Drafting responses to complaints received via the office of the Ombud for Long term Insurance
    • Building and maintaining relationships within internal business units and the relevant Regulatory bodies
    • To conduct legal analysis and research on various legal matters

    Qualification

    • Matric

    Experience

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience within the financial services industry dealing with employee benefits, investments and/or group risk
    • Experience in drafting of contracts and fund rules
    • Experience in the application of the Policyholder Protection Rules
    • Experience with Group Risk Insurance cover

    Technical Skills & Knowledge

    • Knowledge of Retirement Fund Compliance and Governance
    • Knowledge of the King IV Principles of Corporate Governance
    • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation
    • Long and Short-term insurance experience, including policy drafting and risk benefits related advice

    Head of Technical Marketing

    Key Purpose

    • Lead a highly specialized actuarial team providing product, market, and strategic insights to increase new business for Discovery Insure.  This involves the development and dissemination of effective sales strategies, compelling product positioning and tools for advisors & clients.

    Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to

    • Provide customised support for specific sales opportunities and new business initiatives
    • Package and drive the roll-out of new products and benefits through the annual launch cycle
    • Develop and present roadshow, PPD and training material
    • Provide technical product support to distribution and servicing channels
    • Develop compelling analytical content and product toolkits to demonstrate how the Discovery Insure value propositions deliver exceptional value to clients, advisors and other stakeholders
    • Produce objective industry analysis and market insights which clearly position Discovery Insure as the authority on how the industry operates and the broader competitor landscape
    • Utilise technical product knowledge, including understanding of competitors, to identify business opportunities

    Head of Talent Acquisition and Talent Brand

    Key Purpose 

    • To lead the talent ambition of attracting and recruiting the absolute best person for every role at Discovery 

    Areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to 

    • Benchmark and design best in class acquisition strategies, processes and systems in partnership with Heads of People, Center of Excellence/Expertise (COE) and business leaders. 
    • Lead the talent acquisition and employer brand function working in close collaboration with Heads of People and Business Leaders to support them in shaping their acquisition and employer brand strategies.

    AI Data Scientist

    Key Purpose

    • A Junior Data Scientist that will help integrate and leverage natural language processing (NLP) and advanced large language models (LLMs) to enhance AI frameworks.  These innovative capabilities will enable unstructured autonomous decision-making processes, increase operational efficiency, and deliver personalized customer experiences.

    Areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to

    • Project Contribution: By collaborating with contents specialists, data engineers and system architects, contribute to the deployment of solutions and delivery of projects from inception through to business adoption.
    • Model Development and Integration: Deploy robust and scalable LLMs that are integrated into AI frameworks, enhancing natural language processing capabilities.
    • Advanced Data Retrieval Integration: Incorporate techniques like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, and semantic searches to improve precision and relevance in data extraction from large datasets.
    • Automation Workflows: Design and implement automation workflows that improve speed and accuracy of processes, reducing manual intervention and operational costs.
    • Performance Metrics and System Maintenance: Develop performance metrics to consistently evaluate the efficiency and accuracy of AI models. Actively monitor and maintain these systems to ensure they remain effective and adaptable.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all AI models and data handling practices comply with relevant laws and ethical guidelines, preparing documentation and reports as required for regulatory bodies.
    • Experimentation: Prototype ML systems and AI concepts, particularly those using NLP and LLMs, and evaluate the effects of different models and techniques on AI performance.

    • 1-3 years’ experience in a data science environment (Essential)
    • Demonstrated ability to implement ML workflows at scale, particularly using LLMs (Advantageous)
    • Experience in handling, analyzing, and extracting insights from large and complex datasets, particularly unstructured text data (Advantageous)
