Description
- This position exists to oversee SHEQ Co-ordination within BU, compile combine, reports, and manage all safety aspects in order to deliver compliance towards internal and external environmental requirements. To create an environment where duties can be performed safely, and risks are known and managed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Policy, Targets, Objectives & Goals
- Ensure that the current policies are displayed at all areas of the operation.
- Comply with the objectives, goals and targets set by the company.
- Assist the Operations manager to set up annual SHEQ targets & objectives for each region.
- Ensure all employees are made aware of policies, targets, objectives and goals.
- Communicate policies, targets, objectives and goals with clients as per internal and external client requirement.
Legal Aspects/ Requirements
- Ensure company practices comply with legal and other requirements falling in the risk management domain.
- Give on-going report on legislative and other amendments relevant to the risk domain and comply as required.
- Ensure submissions of applicable statutory documents.
- Ensure that necessary legal and other appointments are made and maintained in the area of responsibility.
- Advise management / appointees of the roles, responsibilities and duties in terms of risk management.
- Establish a working relationship with regulatory bodies (DMPR, Dept of Labour, etc).
Training
- Assist in managing training interventions to equip all employees to have the necessary skills to be competent to perform their roles with the least amount of risk possible.
- Form part of the training initiatives of the company to improve employees understanding of the risk management systems.
- Develop and maintain the training matrix for the site.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant trainings for each occupation
Special Projects
- Establish a Project Plan for each special project.
- Provide ongoing feedback to management on the project.
- Review the project at the end of the project to ensure continual approval.
Risk Assessments
- Ensure that the necessary risk assessments and action plans are compiled, maintained and reviewed.
- Assist and advise staff in meeting requirements of the risk management process.
- Conduct risk awareness sessions and advise management risk status of the BU.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Compile necessary planning documents to effectively execute job requirements posed by the risk management domain.
- Establish a system to monitor effectiveness of actions taken on deviation found during audits or continuous risk assessments.
- Establish system to manage the requirements specified by WC.
- Create risk management awareness by making use of the appropriate media.
- Monitor the medical status of employees.
- Manage employee health exposure levels within acceptable limits.
- Monitor environmental compliance and implement action plans.
- Monitor quality control compliance and actions to address deviations.
Reporting, Recording and/or Review
- Submit weekly/monthly reports as required.
- Report all incidents to the responsible individuals as per company procedure.
- Regularly inform management of the risk status of the areas of responsibility.
- Record all incident statistics and incident information as per requirement.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- National Diploma in Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Management
- Degree in Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Management will be advantageous
- SAMTRAC, COMSOC 1 and 2, ISO 45001:2018 Implementation
EXPERIENCE
- At least 3 years’ experience in a mining or construction safety environment as a safety Officer or similar
- Knowledge of the OHS act, Mine Health and Safety Act

PURPOSE
- The role is responsible for maintenance and repairs of all machinery and related Processing Plant equipment’s.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety, Health and Environment
- Carry and fulfil responsibilities of a MHSA Section 2.9.2 legal appointment.
- Maintain FAMP policies, Standards and procedure requirements.
- Preparation and execution of scheduled routine maintenance, in conjunction with production planning.
- Champions the implementation of proactive maintenance and the elimination of reactive maintenance by implementing preventive and predictive maintenance programmes.
- To support operations by providing effective equipment maintenance ensuring equipment reliability and availability.
Parts and inventory management.
- Control maintenance costs effectively and prevent as far as possible over expenditure.
Coordination
- Issuing of work schedules and job cards.
- Lead team to complying with company SHE strategy and zero harm frame-work
- Develop, review and agree the weekly maintenance plan with the Maintenance and Process team. Ensures safe execution.
- Reduce reaction times to breakdowns (MTTR) and increase mean time between failures (MTBF) through the effective implementation of maintenance best practices, systems and procedures.
- Oversee third party contractor maintenance and compliance.
- Maintains an organised, clean and safe work area.
- Evaluates condition monitoring status.
Administration
- Ensures maintenance logs and work order documentation on equipment inspection and repairs are maintained to required standard
- Prepares month end performance report for engineer
- Generates cost report to site manager/engineer.
- Ensures all break downs are appropriately recorded by subordinates.
Managing the team
- Select and appoint competent and passionate people.
- Supervision, training and development of maintenance subordinates.
- Maintain open channel communication with subordinates through daily meetings for two-way feedback.
- Monitor performance & maintain discipline.
- Serve as a mentor to yearly intake of work integrated learning students.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- N3 Mechanical/Electrical Engineering subjects
- Trade Test MQA/MERSETA preferred
- Supervisory Course (Advantageous)
EXPERIENCE
- Learnership/Apprentice in Mining/construction/transport/plant or
- manufacturing2 years
- Artisan 3-5 years in Mining/plant or manufacturing
- 3 Years management experience

Operate and Promote Health and Safety on Site
- Maintain FAT RSA Plant safety policy and procedure requirements.

- Minimum five years Artisan experience in mining / construction / utilities / fleet (LDV and trucks) / plant hire or manufacturing – yellow machine (TMM) orientated (ADTs, excavators, graders, wheel loaders, water bowsers, TLBs)
- Minimum three years experience as an Engineering Foreman/Supervisor, preferable in the mining environment
- A computerised maintenance management system (CMMS, i.e. SAGE and On-Key will be added advantage)
