    Project Administrator (Grade 10) (5 Hours Per Day) – 5-Year Contract

    Main Objectives

    • To provide effective and efficient financial and administrative control and reporting for the designated research group (Oppenheimer Chair) per the University’s and funders’ policies and procedures, and to produce accurate and timeous financial reports prepared per university and funders’ guidelines.
    • Provide efficient and practical support to a large research group working in a socially sensitive research area, including several academics, researchers, post-docs, and postgraduate students.

    The Requirements

    Grade 12 plus approximately four years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

    • Previous experience which demonstrates a thorough understanding of financial management and accounting principles, with the ability to consolidate sets of accounts in the required format/s in an electronic environment
    • Experience in administering and/or hosting multi-institutional and multi-national meetings/conferences.
    • The ability to investigate and reconcile multiple accounts is essential
    • Previous experience in working within a computerised accounting environment and having worked with Excel at an advanced level
    • Previous experience in working with word processing (including being able to create and maintain databases), e-mail and the Internet
    • Previous experience in setting up and maintaining filing and administrative systems
    • Previous experience in the use of social media for marketing purposes, designing websites, and graphics will be an advantage
    • Candidates who have Personal Assistance experience and/or media management would be an advantage

    Readvertisment: Senior Manager: Finance Systems and Business Analysis

    Main Objectives

    • Responsible for leading and managing the activities that drive continuous improvement in and optimisation of finance systems and business processes, contributing to improvements in finance service delivery, in collaboration with the leadership of the Finance Division and I&TS teams.
    • Responsible for maintaining and managing enhancements of the University’s finance application systems, providing technical expertise and direction to finance process owners, communicating finance systems changes, and facilitating training and end-user support. Must ensure that ICT Governance is effectively managed.

    The Requirements

    A relevant NQF level 7 (preferably a B Com with Accounting III or Information Systems III, or similar qualification), plus at least 6 years relevant experience, where such experience includes: -

    • Financial and accounting experience, including application of accounting standards, in a large, complex environment.
    • At least three years of experience in process (re)design, functional configuration, testing and end-user training on an ERP system.
    • At least three years of experience in project management where project outcomes affect business processes and end-users.
    • At least three years of knowledge of and experience with standardising and consolidating protocols, processes and procedures.
    • Experience in the implementation of an ERP financial system and related modules.
    • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications, which include Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
    • At least two years of management and/or supervision experience.

    The following will be advantageous: -

    • Oracle certification in one or more of the Oracle ERP Financials applications/services
    • Working within a Higher Education
    • Leader in the full implementation of an ERP financial system

    Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer In The Department of Literary Studies In English

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for teaching and learning, the creation of knowledge (research), professional involvement and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. 
    • Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level.
    • In addition, a Professor and Associate Professor are to provide academic leadership in the following areas: teaching and learning; research and community engagement as well as to contribute towards the leadership and management of the institution.

    The Requirements

    A PhD in Literary Studies in English, with teaching experience and interest in Literary Theory is required.

    Expertise in the following areas of specialisation would be an added advantage:

    • Postmodernist Literature
    • Digital Humanities
    • Ecology and Environmental Literature
    • Oceanic Studies
    • Film Studies

    Psychologist III - 3 Year Contract

    Main Objectives

    • As a senior member of a team of psychologists and interns in the Counselling Centre, the primary purposes of this job are to provide comprehensive counselling and psychological support to the Nurturing Emerging Scholars Programme (NESP) scholars, including the broader Rhodes University students.
    • To provide advice to university staff members in managing students with psychological problems, assist the Manager of the Centre in the supervision and training of intern and qualified psychologists. 

    The Requirements

    • Registration and compliant with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Counselling Psychologist with a Master's Degree (NQF 9) with at least 5 years’ relevant work experience over and above their internship. 
    • Individuals who have supervised interns will be at an advantage. 

    Relevant experience includes: -

    • Any work with adolescents or individuals in early adulthood. The greater the diversity of this experience the better for example, experience in one-on-one counselling, group counselling and educational work. 
    • Those individuals with specific experience of working with University students will also be at an advantage.
