    Graduate Process Engineer

    Job Description

    • Ensure that process engineering activities on assigned projects are executed within budgeted manhours and approved schedules in compliance with project procedures, standards and specifications and in accordance with procedures and the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of South Africa.
    • Carry out design work for a unit or units as required by the Lead Process Engineer in accordance with the agreed project schedule. Supervise the work of assigned subordinates on the project.
    • Advise Chief/ Principal Process Engineer of deficiencies and possible changes to the established design methods, standards and data. Accept responsibility as requested for development and maintenance of expertise in specific areas of technology.
    • Advise Chief / Principal Process Engineer of possible fields for technical investigations and computer programs. Carry out technical investigations, including development of computer programs and produce technical reports as and when required.
    • Provide progress report information, at the required frequency and with the required content, to the Project Engineer.

    Responsibilities

    • Keep abreast of discipline developments, new technology and techniques.
    • Carry out technical investigations, including development of computer programs, produce technical reports as and when required.
    • Ensure that the requirements of Licensor’s / Client’s Secrecy Agreements are known and complied with in the work performed. 
    • Ensure that the Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality Assurance Procedures are followed during the execution of all contracts and that a high standard of safety is achieved in all process engineering work.
    • Carry out design work of a unit or units as required by the Lead Process Engineer in accordance with the agreed project schedule.
    • Advise the Lead Process Engineer of any slippages and their causes and the proposed corrective action.
    • Advise the Lead Process Engineer of any technical problems and unresolved differences with other groups.
    • Notify the Lead Process Engineer of all deficiencies in the flow of data or other basic information required for execution of work.
    • Assist the Lead Process Engineer with progress reports.
    • Carry out simulations of processes using simulation packages such as, Aspen, Pro II and Hysys.
    • Using the basis of design advised by the Lead Process Engineer, make detailed calculations to develop the design and be responsible for the accuracy of these calculations.
    • Ensure that detail design methods, standards and data used meet the Client’s requirements and/or those issued by the company.
    • Prepare process flow diagrams, equipment specifications and process descriptions for review and approval by the Lead Process Engineer.
    • Complete thermal designs / ratings for shell and tube exchangers and air coolers and thermal design data sheets for review and approval by the Lead Process Engineer.
    • Prepare process specifications for instrumentation and control for review and approval by the Lead Process Engineer. Assist as required in the preparation of control narratives.
    • Prepare hazardous area classification notes for review by the lead process engineer.
    • Review engineering flow diagrams(EFD’s)  and submit comments to Lead Process Engineer. Prepare contract engineering design (CED’s) documents, as required, to communicate changes / design information.
    • Prepare process summaries and schedules (effluents & emissions, chemicals & catalysts, utilities, battery limits and, relief and blowdown).
    • On request, review Supplier’s quotations from a process engineering standpoint. On order placement, review Supplier drawings and documents and provide comments.
    • Participate in EFD reviews, HAZOP’s and any other design reviews
    • Participate in review of project model.
    • Assist, as required, in the preparation of operating manuals.
    • File process calculations and other documents in the proper manner at the conclusion of design work.
    • Provide process support to the other engineering disciplines.
    • Rotate to other departments and carry out the duties applicable to that department.
    • Perform such duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Chief Process Engineer.

    Qualifications: 

    • BSc, BEng, BTech (Chemical)
    • None to 2 Years minimum experience

    Senior Designer (Civil)

    Job Description

    • Production of Civil and Structural Smartplant 3D model and generation of Approved for Construction Civil and Structural drawings utilising Microstation CADD software in accordance with company requirements.
    • Provides guidance and supervision to Civil Designers and Trainee Civil Designers as required.
    • May perform the function of Lead Civil Designer on projects, or Section Lead Civil Designer on large or complex projects.

    Responsibilities

    • Technical Design Ability – Completes technical design work using relevant design methods, Client and Corporate standards and specifications and data in line with Project requirements. 
    • Produces final Smartplant 3D civil models for earthworks, piling, foundations, superstructure, underground services, paving and buildings in accordance with engineering design sketches as provided by the Civil Engineering group.
    • Produces final Smartplant 3D structural models for pipe-racks and pipe support steelwork, equipment support and access structures, vertical vessel circular access platforms and buildings in accordance with engineering design sketches as provided by the Civil Engineering group.
    • Produces final civil deliverable drawings i.e. earthworks, piling, foundations, superstructures, underground services, paving and buildings inclusive of reinforcement detailing and reinforcement bending schedules where applicable. Drawings to be produced utilising design sketches as provided by Civil Engineering group and extracted views from the 3D model. All drawings to be produced in accordance with client, corporate and national standards, specifications and procedures as applicable.
    • Produces final structural deliverable drawings i.e. pipe racks and pipe support steelwork, equipment support and access structures, vertical vessel circular access platforms and buildings. Drawings to be produced utilising design sketches as provided by Civil Engineering group and extracted views from the 3D model. All drawings to be produced in accordance with client, corporate and national standards, specifications and procedures as applicable.
    • Reviews civil and structural clash reports and resolve clashes for areas of responsibility.
    • May fulfil function of Lead Designer on projects.
    • Assumes role of civil and structural checker as and when the need arises.
    • Receives engineering design information and instructions from Principal / Lead Civil Designer as applicable.
    • Leases with respective Civil Engineer on engineering related issues.
    • Leases with allocated Civil Checker.
    • Leases with lead, senior designers and designers from Piping, Electrical, Instrumentation, Vessels and Mechanical group as necessary.
    • Assist the Chief Civil Designer with training of junior staff as appropriate.
    • Perform such duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Chief Civil Designer.

    Qualifications:

    • National Civil Diploma or equivalent.
    • Intergraph Smartplant 3D Structural modelling software package experience.
    • Bentley Microstation 3D CADD software package experience version 8 or later.
    • 10 years minimum related industry experience in Civil and Structural draughting.

    Knowledge, skills and experience:

    • Technical Design Ability - Guides and coaches others to achieve a high standard in Civil and Structural draughting using company, client and industry standards and data in line with Project requirements.
    • Technical Expertise - Carries out draughting work to a high standard. Responsible for checking models and deliverables when the need arises and if requested. Has a sound knowledge over a broad range of civil engineering fields relevant to the project environment.
    • Cross Discipline Project Team Interaction - Proactively works with other discipline designers/engineers.
    • Understanding and meeting Schedule and Schedule dependencies - Accountable for deliverable production to suit project schedule.
    • Commercial Awareness and Customer Focus - demonstrates increasing customer (client) focus, be aware of and responsive to customer (client) needs without sacrificing the project and Corporate objectives.
