    Lecturer/ Junior Lecturer

    Job Purpose

    To teach subjects in the Department of Ophthalmic Sciences according to a set syllabus, to support the faculty in pursuit of achieving its academic objectives and to contribute to academic initiatives undertaken by the faculty to enhance the teaching and learning environment. The incumbent will work within defined academic and professional standards to facilitate theoretical and practical learning within discipline-specific subjects on the departmental programme offerings. The role will also require faculty responsibilities on various academic committees as well as departmental operational responsibilities. The role will also require industry liaison relevant to Work-integrated Learning.

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    Junior Lecturer:

    A relevant B-Degree or equivalent in an Ophthalmic Sciences discipline.
    At least 2 years' lecturing experience in higher education and/or 5 years professional industry experience (Preference will be given to applicants with lecturing experience).
    Current registration and in good standing with the HPCSA.
    The incumbent will be expected to enroll for the HDHET or equivalent to improve lecturing skills.

    Lecturer:

    • A Masters Degree or equivalent in an Ophthalmic Sciences discipline.
    • At least 2 years' lecturing experience in higher education and/or 5 years professional industry experience (Preference will be given to applicants with lecturing experience).
    • Current registration and in good standing with the HPCSA.
    • The incumbent will be expected to enroll for the HDHET or equivalent to improve lecturing skills.
    • Please note preference will be given to making an appointment at the higher level.

    Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

    • Prepare professional, appropriate and high-quality learning and teaching materials.
    • Contribute towards curriculum development and review of existing and new programmes.
    • Teaching and learning strategies: Incorporate current and innovative trends in higher education.
    • Assessment: Facilitate assessment and review of teaching methodologies, identifying at-risk students and applying appropriate interventional strategies.
    • Research: conduct research and support undergraduate research activities.
    • Management of workplace‐based learning, service learning and community outreach projects.
    • Promote teaching and learning in a manner that is learning focused and fosters lifelong learning.
    • Academic administration: optimum record keeping of students’ marks, report writing, portfolios.
    • Contribute towards student success monitoring and intervention strategies.
    • Contribute towards community service – facilitate service learning within the curriculum.
    • Contribute towards Quality Assurance in the Department.
    • Consult and collaborate with other academic staff and the clinical platform (profession) to ensure integration of theory, technical and clinical practice.
    • Liaison with professionals in industry.

    Manager Strategic Initiative and Projects

    Job Purpose

    To establish formal relationships with institutions and organizations; locally, nationally and internationally. To manage the International Exchange Programme of the faculty. To drive the third-stream income projects in the faculty.

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • A relevant Master’s degree
    • At least three (3) years relevant managerial experience
    • Experience in dealing with external parties including international partners

    Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

    • Coordination of projects in the Office of the Dean
    • Managing the International exchange programme fin the faculty Creating third-stream income for the faculty
    • Cultivation of new faculty projects, including MOU’s

    • Preference will be given to candidates with a Masters degree, or who are registered for and who have made significant progress towards Masters.

    Manager: Quality, Risk & Knowledge Management

    Job Purpose

    The Faculty of Business and Management Sciences seeks to appoint a Manager: Quality, Risk & Knowledge Management to manage and provide support on quality management as well as risk and compliance imperatives at faculty and departmental level. The incumbent will assume responsibility for developing, implementing, improving and reporting on Quality Management and risk/compliance plans in the faculty, and will assume overall responsibility for knowledge management within the Faculty.

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • Master’s Degree related to a discipline in the Faculty of Business & Management Sciences
    • Minimum of 5 years’ teaching experience in higher education of which at least 3 years’ experience in Quality or Risk Management in higher education
    • Experience in curriculum design

    Recommended

    • A Doctoral qualification related to a discipline in the Faculty of Business & Management Sciences is preferred.
    • Experience in enterprise risk management and compliance matters, as well as knowledge management
    • Experience in developing and implementing quality frameworks and
    • Experience in quality assurance mechanisms in higher education
    • Knowledge and understanding of the national policy context in higher education

     Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

    • Facilitate and monitor the implementation of national and institutional quality management and related policies at faculty level
    • Manage QM processes in the faculty, for example, internal and external departmental, faculty and institutional QM reviews. Provide support for departments with developing self-evaluation reviews and planning programme reviews
    • Monitor and support implementation processes for data gathering, analysis and feedback, (for 
    • example, student feedback, graduate destination surveys)
    • Monitor the progression of quality improvement plans
    • Monitor and report on the faculty baseline data of academic (and other) activities
    • Align the faculty risk management and improvement plan with the institutional risk management plan 
    • Manage the risk imperatives in the faculty
    • Develop and monitor associated risk management improvement plans
    • Develop a faculty POPIA implementation plan that aligns with institutional requirements Manage 
    • POPIA compliance in the faculty
    • Compile the faculty’s annual QM, operational, academic and other reports as required by faculty and 
    • institutional management
    • Participate in institutional and faculty fora and committee meetings
    • Manage Risk, Compliance and Knowledge Management initiatives and projects in the faculty

    Competencies

    • Excellent ICT skills (Office 365 programmes e.g. SharePoint, Teams)
