Main Objectives

The Requirements

Grade 12 plus approximately 4 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

• Previous experience in a computerised administrative environment where it was a key job requirement to pay attention to detail and check his/her own work
• At least one years’ supervision experience and/or be in possession of an RU Supervision Certificate
• Previous experience in a service type environment where client service is key

Main Objectives

• All academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. 
• Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level.

The Requirements

Lecturer:

• A PhD in Linguistics or Applied Language Studies is required. Candidates who have submitted their PhD thesis for examination will be considered (proof of examination is required).
• Candidates must have expertise in linguistic approaches to Discourse Analysis. The ability to teach in the following areas will be an added advantage: Sociolinguistics, Corpus Linguistics, and/or Computational Linguistics.
• The successful candidate must be willing to contribute to other modules in the department.

The Requirements 

• At least an LLM degree, preceded by a LLB degree from a South African University, with a commitment to register for and pursue a PhD, within six months from the date of appointment.
• The completion of a PhD will form part of the probation requirements.
• Tutoring or facilitation experience and commitment to a career in academia required.
• Ability and interest to teach in the field of Procedural Law.
• Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).
• As per nGAP requirements, a minimum average of 70% pass mark is required for the Master’s degree.

• A Master’s Degree in Education with a specialisation in English Literature Teaching. A PhD or progress towards a PhD would be an advantage.
• At least three years of Senior and FET Phase teaching or teacher education experience.
• Ability to teach English Literature and support in-service teachers in schools and districts.
• Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).

 Areas of responsibility include: -

• Ensuring staff provide an acceptable level of service in providing financial administration support to the Rhodes community who have been awarded research grants and project funding.
• Monitoring performance of the staff in following the standard operating procedures and/or unique processes deemed necessary to ensure careful governance of grant and contract funding.
• Facilitating, managing and coordinating the various financial training programmes offered by Research Finance as a service offered to administrators in academic departments and at Institutes.
• Overseeing the staff in their financial reporting duties, so that they produce accurate financial reports in accordance with funders’ specified financial reporting formats, timeframes and auditors requirements.
• Where applicable, timeous production and or authorisation of accurate financial reports, prepared on the basis of Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (GAAP) and International Accounting Standards (IAS), in accordance with funders’ specified requirements.
• The Research Finance section share responsibility for financially administering various sources of contract and grant funding received by the university. In addition, responsible for financial administration of all sources of funding received by Institutes and self-funding units, income from short courses, conferences and workshops, consulting income, sundry external income and reserves. These funds represent approximately 25% of the annual income received by the university.
• In this document, the (senior) financial administrators  report into the assistant managers, who in turn report into  the managers of the offices in the section, either: -
• The Institutes and Projects office OR the NRF and SARChI Chair support office. These two offices are currently the focus areas of the “Research Finance” section of the Finance Division.

The Requirements

• An appropriate B Com (Accounting) or similar degree at NQF Level 7 (with Financial Management) PLUS minimum 4 years relevant experience
• Previous experience in a pressurised computerised accounting administrative environment where there were multiple demands and tight deadlines.
• Demonstration of advanced Excel skills for financial reporting and analysis.
• Previous experience in the preparation and checking of financial statements for audit, prior to their submission to external funders.
• Previous experience working with VAT and applying the principles of the Income Tax Act.
• At least 4 year’s supervision experience which includes the motivation of staff and the ability to deal with conflict.
• Previous experience in research grant financial administration would be an advantage.

Main Objectives

• To customise software solutions required for the administration of the University, and to support users in the operation of such software and programs.
• The position also requires querying and analysis of the underlying data to provide answers to ad hoc queries generated by users of software.
• Sometimes this work may involve working with databases and data sources other than the centralised administrative system but will usually be limited to data and databases that are critical to the University administration systems.

The Requirements

• A 3-year NQF Level 7 qualification with approximately 1 year of programming experience
• Programming experience is evidence of experience in a programming environment developing software front ends using C# or web technologies
