    Archivist

    Main Objectives

    • To manage and execute all archival strategies, operations and projects in and of Cory Library in order to transform it into a comprehensive inter-disciplinary studies research archive. Equally, the objective is to make Cory Library a living archive with close connections and meaningful reciprocities with the donor, research, local communities it serves, and in collaboration with regional and national partnerships and collaborative initiatives within the Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAM) sector.

    The Requirements

    A relevant B. Degree (NQF 7) with specialisation in archival studies or heritage management plus approximately 6 years’ relevant experience, where such experience includes: -

    • Previous experience in an archive division of a substantial library or archive
    • Previous experience managing best practices in archive facilities with a proven ability to conceptualise and manage archives and preservation strategies
    • Having worked in a computerised academic or research library/archive
    • Previous exposure to relevant IT applications/ systems and electronic library and information tools.
    • Previous exposure to digitisation of archive collections

    The following would be advantageous: -

    • Member of the South African Society of Archivists (SASA)
    • South African Society of Archivists (SASA)
    • Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA)
    • South African Museums Association (SAMA)
    • Working knowledge of metadata schemas, including EAD and MODS
    • Proficiency in IsiXhosa
    • Project Management skills

    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties.  Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level.

    The Requirements

    Lecturer:

    • At least a Masters’ degree in Clinical Psychology, with a commitment to register and nearing completion of PhD within the probationary period. In addition, registration with the HPCSA as a clinical psychologist is required.
    • Three years of practice experience registered as a clinical psychologist with the HPCSA, and case supervision experience is advantageous.
    • Some teaching experience is required. Should be acquainted with online/ blended teaching, testing and marking or be willing to immediately acquire these skills once on the job through workshop attendance or other developmental opportunities.
    • Ability to teach and interest in any of the following areas is required:
    • Adult and/or child psychopathology, assessment and intervention
    • Public Mental Health and or Professional Identity
    • Multilingualism in teaching and case supervision is a distinct advantage.
    • Ability to supervise postgraduate students as research supervision at Hons, Masters and PhD level as per qualification will be required once in the job.
    • It would be an advantage for candidates to be able to do clinical supervision once appointed to the job. However, candidates will be expected to do so within a reasonable timeframe following their appointment.
    • Some evidence and experience in conducting research.
    • Track record of administration, management and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).

    Senior Lecturer:

    • A PhD in Psychology or cognate disciplines, and registration with the HPCSA as a clinical psychologist.
    • Three years of practice experience registered as a clinical psychologist with the HPCSA, and case supervision experience is advantageous.
    • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels required.
    • Teaching experience and interest in any of the following areas is required:
    • Adult and/or child psychopathology, assessment and intervention
    • Public Mental Health and or Professional Identity
    • Multilingualism in teaching and case supervision is a distinct advantage.
    • Research supervision of at least Masters’ degrees to completion required.
    • Candidates will be expected to do clinical supervision once appointed to the job.
    • Emerging national profile in the discipline (Good to satisfactory research track record).
    • Track record of administration, management and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).

    Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in the Department of Literary Studies in English

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for teaching and learning, the creation of knowledge (research), professional involvement and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties.  Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level.
    • In addition, a Professor and Associate Professor are to provide academic leadership in the following areas: teaching and learning; research and community engagement as well as to contribute towards the leadership and management of the institution.

    The Requirements

    • A PhD in Literary Studies in English, with teaching experience and interest in Literary Theory is required.

    Expertise in the following areas of specialisation would be an added advantage:

    • Postmodernist Literature
    • Digital Humanities
    • Ecology and Environmental Literature
    • Oceanic Studies
    • Film Studies

    Registered Nurse II

    Main Objectives

    • To ensure that a high standard of health care service is provided to students and staff.   

    The Requirements

    • Grade 12 plus must be a Registered Nurse with at least at NQF level 6 qualification with approximately 4 years’ relevant experience.

    Required working experience includes: -

    • Previous experience working as a nurse where the focus was on patient diagnosis, patient treatment, referral and drug control
    • Must have experience in dealing with acute medical emergencies
    • Possess a current dispensing license or acquire one within the first 12 months of assuming duty. The Institution will bear the cost thereof.
    • A certificate in Family Planning would be a considerable advantage. If the incumbent does not have a certificate he/she must acquire one within the first 12 months of assuming duty.  The Institution will bear the cost thereof.
    • Previous administrative experience within a computerized environment.
    • Appropriate Basic Life support certificate.

    Assistant Manager RU Sports

    Main Objectives

    • To assist and support the Head of Sport in driving and executing sport at Rhodes University. 
    • Responsible for providing support to the Head of Sport as well as managing the day-to-day operations within the department.  

    The Requirements

    A relevant NQF Level 7 qualification plus 6 years’ relevant working experience where such experience includes: -

    •  At least 2 to 4 years’ relevant working experience within an education/service-orientated environment in sport and a high level of interaction with students
    • Previous supervision/management experience
    • Experience in administering & organising sport at club/tertiary and/or provincial and/or national level
    • Previous experience in playing sport and/or a demonstrated ongoing interest in sport
    • Previous experience in organising sporting events/ tournaments
    • Basic computer literacy; word-processing, spreadsheets, email and internet

    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Industrial/Organisational Psychology

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties.  Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level.
    • In addition, a Professor and Associate Professor are to provide academic leadership in the following areas: teaching and learning; research and community engagement as well as to contribute towards the governance of the institution. This leadership contribution of the Professor should be evidenced at the departmental, Faculty and institutional levels. 

    The Requirements

    Lecturer:

    • At least a Masters degree in Industrial and Organisational Psychology/Industrial Psychology with evidence of PhD registration and an ability to teach and interest in Psychological Assessment and General Industrial/Organisational Psychology. Registration as an Industrial Psychologist with the HPCSA is required. 

    Senior Lecturer:

    • A PhD in Industrial and Organisational Psychology/Industrial Psychology. Candidates who are able to provide evidence of having submitted their PhD for examination may also be considered. Suitable candidates should have teaching experience and interest in Psychological Assessment and General Industrial/Organisational Psychology. Registration as an Industrial Psychologist with the HPCSA is required. 

    Associate Professor:

    • A PhD in Industrial and Organisational Psychology/Industrial Psychology with teaching experience and interest in Psychological Assessment and General Industrial/Organisational Psychology. Registration for at least three years as an Industrial Psychologist with the HPCSA is needed.
