    Training Supervisor - Richards Bay

    Job Advert Summary    

    • A position for a Training Supervisor has become available within the Training Department at BTT Richards Bay and Isando.
    • To provide training service in all areas, developing and maintaining a high standard of training delivery, while ensuring that Richards Bay and Isando training centres are well supervised, with effective coordination and administration of all training centre activities relating to practical and theoretical training and will furthermore ensure that the training material is current, and trainings are relevant.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Grade 12 Certification
    • Skills Facilitation, Assessor and Moderator Certification
    • Training related Diploma/Degree
    • ODETDP would be advantageous.
    • Chemical Plant Operations / Chemical Engineering Qualification will be advantageous.
    • Minimum 5 years previous training/supervisory experience
    • 3 years in Petrochemical industry experience

    Duties and Responsibilities    

    • Responsible for all on-site training and skills transfer
    • Supervise all day-to-day activities, facilities, and staff in the Richards Bay and Isando training centre.
    • Plan, coordinate, and execute internal training interventions.
    • Identify training needs together with Supervisors and Managers to ensure relevance of training in terms of operational level requirements by holding regular meetings with stakeholders to discuss training plans, schedules etc.
    • Liaise with all relevant stakeholders to determine training requirements and execution.
    • Ensure candidates that are chosen for training are well trained and briefed on the aspects of the site they are working in.
    • Induct new employees on site giving them thorough insight into the fire and safety equipment available on site, and its usage.
    • Test candidates for competence in theory and practical training, gathers evaluation data and improves evaluation processes if there are any shortfalls.
    • Track and provide feedback on corrective and preventative action that arises out of annual audits.
    • Notify all stakeholders on the training results of candidates and issues prepared certificates for fully completed courses.
    • Review candidates’ site assessments done by the Supervisors to verify compliance to procedures and work instructions as well as competence to perform the task and re-do training if any short falls.
    • Ensure candidates are trained in accordance with ISO 9001,1400,45001 procedures, work instructions, and to SHE Systems
    • Ensure all internal training material is updated, relevant and compliant with legislation and BTT Standards & Procedures
    • Conduct mini audits of skills components of the Training Matrix, Iso-Metrix, SAP, LMS, SAP, LMS and filing systems.
    • Assist with BTT course and Training Centre accreditation.
    • Provide accurate stats and monthly reports.

    Process Safety Engineer - Durban

    Job Advert Summary    

    • Bidvest Tank Terminals is looking to fill a Process Safety Engineer position, to be based within the Durban Business Unit and reporting to the SHEP Manager. The candidate must meet the following minimum criteria:

    Minimum Requirements    

    • BSc /Btech in Chemical Engineering
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Process or Process Safety Engineer in a Petrochemical industry
    • Incident investigation experience essential
    • ECSA Pr. Eng registration (or equivalent would be advantageous
    • Risk Management experience would be advantageous

    Duties and Responsibilities    

    • Provide support in the implementation and continuation of the BTT Process Safety Strategy
    • Lead and facilitate multi-disciplinary workshops with respect to implementation of Process Safety Elements
    • Proactive management of all Incident investigations on site
    • Lead all Incident investigations
    • Accountable for close out of Incident reports within 14 days
    • Apply root cause analysis techniques (RCAT, 5 whys etc.)
    • Provide monthly trending analysis on all Incidents
    • Update Isometrix system for incident management
    • Create and monitor Process Safety Lead & Lagging Indicators
    • Conduct PSSRs (Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews) for medium to large projects
    • Facilitate and review HAZOPs/LOPAs/SILs exercises
    • Lead workshops on implementation for selected elements of the Process Safety Strategy
    • Participate in IMS system updates to comply with legal and business requirements
    • Follow up all outstanding findings to ensure gaps closure
    • Report on all audits and highlight major findings as well as recommendations
    • Ensure site Risk assessment (RA) are updated
    • All action for SHEP department, from RA ‘s, are captured and tracked
    • Ensure a risk reduction program is in place and completed
    • Complete the 5-year HAZOP plan for the Durban Region
    • Complete alarm rationalisation for the site

    Gas Supervisor - Richards Bay

    Job Advert Summary    

    • A position for a Gas Supervisor has become available within the Operations Department at BTT Richards Bay.
    • To ensure efficient and safe operation of the Gas Plant, including managing operations and projects that may occur in the plant.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Chemical engineering Diploma or equivalent
    • 5 years’ experience in chemical/ Petro-chemical industry
    • Process Safety experience
    • Bulk Gas Storage Facility/Terminal Operations experience
    • 3 years’ Supervisory experience

    Duties and Responsibilities    

    • Ensure equipment and system is operated as per design functionality.
    • Control all operational activities on a shift basis.
    • Monitor and control plant parameters such as temperature, pressure and levels including equipment performance and deviations.
    • Collate, record and analyse all process variables and equipment performance.
    • Determine causes of abnormal pressure and temperature variances and implement preventative and corrective action.
    • Manage plant commissioning and decommissioning activities.
    • Manage stock levels.
    • Assess plant performance and breakdowns and take appropriate remedial actions.
    • Supervise control room duties and ensure accurate data capturing.
    • Lead plant activity risk assessments and incident investigations.
    • Conduct root cause analysis and report results.
    • Enforce SOPs, WI and conduct Planned Job Observations
    • Report all unsafe activities and/or operations and ensure corrective action is taken.
    • Participate in emergency response/firefighting activities.
    • Supervise, mentor and conduct on the job training with new operators on all plant activities.
    • Plan and co-ordinate the availability of team members.
    • Assess the performance of team members and take appropriate action/s.
