Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- A relevant Master’s degree to the teaching of Afrikaans Home Language
- A Bachelor’s degree with Afrikaans as a major
- A relevant teaching qualification
- At least two (2) years relevant teaching the subject at the tertiary level or five (5) years’ experience in teaching Afrikaans at secondary level (grade 8 – 12)
- Knowledge, understanding and experience in preparing and evaluating meaningful teaching experiences for Senior and FET phase students.
- Knowledge of how to write in academic language and how to do research is of utter importance.
- Fluency in Afrikaans and English – BEd tuition on the Wellington Campus is in Afrikaans.

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
- Teaching Afrikaans Home Language to BEd students from first year to final year in the SPFET department.
- Curriculum development and other learning materials.
- Supervising students on teaching practice.
- Research and involvement in research activities (publications and supervision).
- Academic administration and development.
- Adequate content and pedagogical content knowledge.
- Assessment and quality assurance.
- Networking with schools and other networks.
- Community engagement.
- Coaching and mentoring students.
- Meticulous planning and organising skills.
- Ability to align yourself to hybrid teaching and learning models (face-to-face and online learning).
- Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department.
