    HOD: Physical Sciences (Grades 10 to 12)

    What are we looking for?

    • We are looking for someone with the following experience, qualifications and /or skillsets:

    • Curro Vanderbijlpark seeks to appoint a Head of Department: Physical Sciences (Grades 10 to 12) to commence duties in January 2026.
    • Curro Holdings is seeking to appoint an experienced and dynamic Head of Department: Physical Sciences (Grades 10 to 12) at Curro Vanderbijlpark. The Head of Department will be responsible for managing the department, curriculum, and teachers in their subject area. This role provides academic leadership, ensures compliance with IEB and Curro Curriculum standards, and promotes high-quality teaching and learning across all grades.

    Key performance areas

    • Manage curriculum planning, administration, and academic delivery within the subject area.
    • Liaise with Curro Head Office subject specialists and ensure compliance with IEB and Curro requirements.
    • Provide academic guidance and mentorship to subject teachers to maintain high teaching standards.
    • Plan, moderate, and review assessment tools (formative and summative).
    • Ensure consistent academic quality through class visits, lesson observations, and staff development.
    • Manage departmental resources, budgets, and filing systems.
    • Oversee reporting, result analysis, and the implementation of improvement plans.
    • Participate in and manage subject-related extracurricular activities (e.g., Olympiads, public speaking, and competitions).
    • Actively teach and engage with learners in the classroom to promote excellence and curiosity in the subject.

    Qualifications, experience and skills

    • BEd / Post Graduate Certificate in Education (required).
    • Honours degree in subject matter (advantageous).
    • 8 years teaching experience.
    • 4 years’ experience as a Head of Department or Subject Head, having taught across multiple grades including Matric.
    • Knowledge of IEB and Curro curricula.
    • Strong leadership, mentoring, and facilitation skills.
    • Excellent planning, organisation, and report-writing abilities.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and related educational technology.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    • SACE registration (required).
    • Willingness to work overtime and attend school activities and events as required.

    • Empathy, patience, and strong emotional control.
