    Chief Food Safety - Crop Processing (12 Months Contract)

    Requirements :

    • Grade 12 plus a 4-year BSc Degree (NQF 8) in Agriculture/Agro-processing/Food Technology qualification as recognised by SAQA.
    • 3-5 years’ experience in Agriculture and Agroprocessing environment. Valid driver’s license. 

    Duties :

    • Provide effective Agro-processing support to new and existing Small and Medium Agroprocessing Enterprises who are processing crops, fruits and vegetables, indigenous and industrial crops into various value-added products.
    • Administer project management interventions aimed at assisting new and existing crop processing stakeholders with planning, development and operations of their processing plants.
    • Working with the unit head and National Department and municipalities, obtain, evaluate, update and disseminate the relevant information to keep Gauteng crop processing industries and other stakeholders informed of new trends/ technical requirements / sanitary measures.
    • Raise awareness on the application of product standards/ legislation/ policies/ guidelines/ checklists/ inspection procedures and standard operating procedures to identify gaps and trends in the crop processing sector.

    Chief Food Safety - Animal Processing

    Requirements :

    • Grade 12 plus a 4-year BSc Degree (NQF 8) in Agriculture /Agro-processing / Food Technology qualification as recognised by SAQA.
    • 3-5 years’ experience in Agriculture/Agroprocessing environment. Valid driver’s license.

    Duties :

    • Provide effective support to new and existing Small and Medium Agro-processing enterprises across all the animal products (e.g. leather tanning) and meat value chains.
    • Administer project management interventions aimed at assisting new and existing animal processing stakeholders with planning, development and operations of their processing plants embedding food safety and compliance.
    • Working with the unit head, veterinary services, national department and municipalities, obtain, evaluate, update and disseminate the relevant information to keep Gauteng Agro-processing industries and other stakeholders informed of new policies, trends/ technical requirements/sanitary measures.
    • Raise awareness on the application of animal processing product standards/ legislation/ policies/ guidelines/ checklists/ inspection procedures and standard operating procedures in the animal processing sector to increase productivity whilst ensuring food safety is enhanced in the province.

    Chief Food Safety - Compliance and Standards (12 Months Contract)

    • Grade 12 plus a 4-year BSc Degree (NQF 8) in Biotechnology / Agro-processing / Food Technology qualification as recognised by SAQA.
    • 3 - 5 years’ experience in Agriculture/Agroprocessing environment. Valid driver’s license. 

    Duties :

    • Provide effective food safety support to new and existing Small and Medium Agro-processing enterprises across all the value chains.
    • Administer project management interventions aimed at assisting new and existing crop processing stakeholders with planning, development and operations of their processing plants embedding food safety and compliance.

    Deputy Director- Food Safety Compliance and Standards (12 Months Contract)

    Requirements :

    • Grade 12 plus 4-year Degree/BSc (NQF 8) in Agriculture/ Agricultural Science/ Agro-processing / Food science as recognised by SAQA.
    • 3-5 years’ relevant experience, of which 3 years must be at an Assistant Director level in Agriculture. Valid driver’s license.

    Duties :

    • Contribute to the implementation of the Gauteng Agroprocessing Strategy through ensuring implementation of a focused program on food safety and compliance to new and existing Agroprocessing SME enterprises in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders. Obtain, evaluate and disseminate information on international trends to local industries to keep them informed of new trends/ requirements.
    • Work with National and contribute to the management and maintenance of databases and information related adherence to various food safety standards including HACCP certification, Maximum residue limits (MRL), etc Collaborate with relevant stakeholders during audits of the SA's Regulatory Control system.
    • Develop relevant policies and/or guidelines on the interpretation of the relevant Acts and its subordinate legislation and ensure implementation thereof by all relevant provincial stakeholders. Ensure that the provincial Agroprocessing program implements food safety standards in line with National and International Food safety and quality requirements.
    • Facilitate food safety awareness campaigns in collaboration with relevant stakeholders in the province. Manage the human resource development of employees in the directorate.

    Deputy Director- Crop Processing

    Requirements :

    • Grade 12 plus 4-year Degree/BSc (NQF 8) in Agricultural Science/ Agro-processing/ Food Science as recognised by SAQA.
    • 3-5 years’ relevant experience, of which 3 years must be at an Assistant Director level in Agricultural Science / Agroprocessing / Food Science. Valid driver’s license.

    Duties :

    • Contribute to the management and implementation of the Gauteng Agroprocessing Strategy with specific focus on enhancing the growth of processed and value-added crop products.
    • Coordinate project management activities aimed at assisting new and existing crop processing stakeholders with planning, technology and safe operations for sustainable increase of their products in the horticulture value chain, grain milling value chain, industrial and indigenous crop value chains, etc.
    • Obtain, evaluate and disseminate information on international trends to local industries to keep them informed of new trends/ requirements. Work with National Department and contribute to the databases and information related to the Maximum residue limits (MRL) for processed products destined for local and export markets.
    • Work with relevant stakeholders on the development, analysis and review of product standards/ legislation including the revision of existing policies, guidelines, checklists, inspection procedures and standard operating procedures.
    • Evaluate and monitor performance of employees to ensure achievement of strategic goals. Manage the human resource development of employees in the sub-directorate.

    Deputy Director- Animal Processing (12 Months Contract)

    • Contribute to the management and implementation of the Gauteng Agroprocessing Strategy with specific focus on enhancing the growth of fresh meat and advanced meat processed products.
    • Coordinate project management activities aimed at assisting new and existing meat processing stakeholders with planning, technology and safe operations for sustainable increase of their products in the poultry value chain, pork value chain, red meat value chains, etc. Obtain, evaluate and disseminate information on international trends to local industries to keep them informed of new trends/ requirements.
    • Work with Veterinary Services and National Department on maintenance of food business operator codes, A- and B-code numbers, factory codes, abattoir codes and labels for export purposes. Work with relevant stakeholders on the development, analysis and review of product standards/ legislation including the revision of existing policies, guidelines, checklists, inspection procedures and standard operating procedures.
    • Evaluate and monitor performance of employees to ensure achievement of strategic goals. Manage the human resource development of employees in the sub-directorate.
