    GM – Senior Fire Fighter

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Grade 12 or higher
    • Code C1 Driver’s License
    • Relevant Firefighter Certificate
    • Pump Operator / Aerial Appliance qualification
    • Higher Certificate in fire technology (fire services)
    • Fire Prevention course
    • Firefighter I course – IFSAC Accredited
    • Firefighter II course – IFSAC Accredited

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Reasonable level of fitness with no extreme cardiac or respiratory anomalies.
    • Ability to perform strenuous duty for prolonged periods in extreme weather conditions and firefighting situations.
    • Physical strength, endurance and agility to adequately demonstrate and instruct fire fighters in equipment using and firefighting techniques.
    • Need to pass all required medical test prior to being employed.

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

    • Respond to emergencies and perform the fire suppression, rescue and demand control and property preservation with limited supervision from Platoon Officer through Departmental Standard Operating Procedures and established protocols and directives.
    • Bring emergency situations under control in accordance with legislative requirements (Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Fire Brigade Services Act 99/87, South African National Standard 10090/93).
    • Ensure immediate and safe use of vehicle and equipment during emergency situations.
    • Ensure that the skills and knowledge obtained by demonstrations by subordinate personnel contribute to efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Ensure proper record keeping and flow of communication.

    Assistant Building Control Officer - George

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • 3-5 years Building Industry experience
    • A relevant National Diploma qualification as stipulated in the National Building Regulations
    • Computer literacy: MS Office
    • Code EB Driver's License
    • Ability to communicate in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape
    • Eligible to be registered as a Peace Officer (Law Enforcement Officer). (Provide proof of SAP clearance certificate)

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

    • To promote the quality and safety of construction projects, ensuring measures are taken to mitigate potential risks to health and safety of workers, occupants and visitors to the site, limiting risks to the environment and ensuring that safe practices are upheld by enforcing building regulations and legislation and ensuring corrective measures are applied.
    • Ensure that the functionality is positioned to deliver on strategic service delivery objectives associated with the construction industry.

    • Ensure that accurate information with respect to specific influential factors and variables impacting on building control functionality is made available to support decision making processes and/or problems solving sequences.
    • Ensure that the completed structure conforms in every respect with the prescribed legislation
    • Ensure that the National Building Regulations are correctly applied and enforced within the area of jurisdiction of Council.
    • Ensure that the applicable legislation is adhered to and promoting good service delivery standards and administrative justice.
    • Ensure that adequate record is kept enabling monitoring and tracking of progress and build portfolio of evidence through the municipality’s accepted electronic system for future reference and research.
    • Facilitate the accurate determination of tariffs and revenue collection by assisting and providing the Valuations department with written certified confirmation of the extent of development.
    • Ensure all correspondence received are accurately recorded, responded to and accountability can be given for execution of actions.
    • Promote good administrative practice and ensure that an effective administrative process is followed as prescribed.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Grade 9 or equivalent technical qualification
    • Valid driver’s license Code EB or C with PrDP

    • A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably a Diploma/B degree in Property Management/ / Build Environment or related

    Chief Network Controller

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ensure that all the Control Room functions are well coordinated according to High Voltage Regulations in order to prevent fatal injuries and damage to electrical apparatus.
    • To help plan for apparatus and system upgrades before the apparatus or system becomes overloaded in order Ensure economical loading of network within contractual limits as not to violate the notified maximum demand and chargeable demand limits and to ensure that distribution apparatus is operated within design limits.
    • Able to identify the different characteristics of individual apparatus in order to eliminate unnecessary time delay in isolating system changes and behaviour.
    • Avoid financial penalties and to act preventatively to eliminate damage to consumer and municipal equipment and coordinate power resources.

    • Ensure that analysis on the SCADA System is conducted frequently and to determine causes in order to take preventative measures to minimize down time and restore power supply with the least possible delay.
    • Ensure that all Trainees are competent after having successfully completed the course based on the George Municipality's High Voltage Operating Regulations prior to being issued with an Authorization Certificate.
