    Lecturer (Medical Specialist) - Family Medicine

    Job description

    • The Discipline of Family Medicine wishes to appoint an academic who will contribute actively to the training and education of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Family Medicine and in the distributed learning and training platforms to build the knowledge base of the discipline through teaching, research and clinical services. Administration of certain teaching activities within the discipline is also required. The candidates will be required to assist with Discipline administration and may be required to assist with School and College administration. The academic designation/salary grade of the successful incumbent will be determined during the selection process in line with the University Senate-approved criteria for academic promotions which is available on the HR Vacancies Website –https://hr.ukzn.ac.za/forms/

    Minimum requirements

    • MBChB or equivalent PLUS qualification as a Family Physician (MMed(FamMed)) or equivalent)
    • Registration with the HPCSA as Family Physician
    • Two years’ experience in clinical service delivery in the relevant field or discipline.
    • At least one-year experience in teaching for appointment at Lecturer level  and pursuing doctoral studies in Family Medicine
    • Teaching, service, administration and research will constitute the major requirements, as applicable in the job profile
    • Computer literacy
    • Valid driver’s licence

    Lecturer NGAP (Land Surveying)

    Job description

    • The Discipline of Land Surveying in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education’s New Generation of Academics’ Programme, has an exciting opportunity for eligible candidates to pursue a career as an academic and researcher. The successful candidate will be expected to register for a doctoral degree at UKZN and will be closely mentored to become an academic through a programme designed to assist with early career development.

    • A BSc Degree in Land Surveying/Geomatics (NQF level 8)

    Professor / Associate Professor (Clinical Psychology)

    Job description

    • The SCHOOL OF MEDICINE wishes to appoint an academic with relevant experience in clinical psychology who will be based in the newly integrated Discipline of Psychiatry and Behavioural Medicine. The candidate will be expected to develop and contribute to teaching, training and research as part of a multidisciplinary team.

    Minimum requirements
    Minimum Requirements for Both Levels:

    Applicants should have:

    • Current registration as a clinical psychologist with HPCSA
    • A PhD in clinical psychology
    • A sustained track record of successful supervision of Master's and PhD students in the last five (5) years.
    • Clinical Psychology teaching experience
    • Publications in peer-reviewed journals
    • Engage in clinical relief including supervision of intern clinical psychologists and supervision of Psychiatry registrars
    • Valid driver’s license

    Minimum Requirement for Associate Professor:

    • Evidence of curriculum development
    • Six (6) years in teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across medical and health sciences modules
    • A minimum of eighteen (18) publications in peer-reviewed journals
    • Evidence of sustained and successful attraction of research grants from external sources, participating in international research projects and collaborative initiatives
    • Evidence of providing service in a leadership position/s (academic leader of discipline, programme coordinator)

    Minimum Requirements for Professor: 

    • Evidence of curriculum development
    • Nine (9) years in teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across medical and health sciences modules, with at least five (5) years in postgraduate teaching
    • A minimum of thirty-one (31) publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
    • Evidence of a sustained record of attracting and winning substantial research grants as PI (or Co-PI) from external sources
    • Evidence of providing service in a leadership position/s (academic leader of discipline, programme coordinator)
    • Evidence of academic citizenship through academic contributions such as delivery of keynote addresses, development of policy and research briefs, or development of practice guidelines that contribute to the professionalisation of psychology
    • Evidence of successful and verifiable mentorship of emerging scholars/ researchers.

    • The SCHOOL OF MEDICINE wishes to appoint an academic with relevant experience in epidemiology who will be based in the Discipline of Public Health. The candidate will be expected to develop and contribute to Epidemiology teaching and research as part of a multidisciplinary team in Public Health. The candidate will participate in team-based research, post-graduate teaching, and research supervision in the Discipline.

    Minimum requirements

    For appointment as Professor:
