    Manager: Residence Operations - Department of Residence Affairs and Accommodation

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The successful candidates’ responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    Operational Management:

    • Manage and monitor the Residence Operations Division within the department;
    • Provide feedback at the in-house management meetings with the Facilities Department and other relevant stakeholders;
    • Submit monthly reports to line management;
    • Monitor Health and Safety compliance as per the regulations and framework, including reporting;  
    • Conduct regular site visits and inspections within residences;
    • Give input on planning and implementation of recess maintenance work;
    • Manage the overall wellness of residence buildings and the immediate environment on behalf of Residence Affairs and Accommodation Department, identifying inefficiencies in operational processes and developing solutions for improved service delivery in the residences;

    Management of Residence Facilities:

    • Ensure that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is adhered to and arrange related training;
    • Liaise with the Department of Facilities Management regarding the maintenance of residences;
    • Ensure the proper planning of maintenance in residences which seeks to address identified gaps in minimum norms and standards set in the policy of Student Housing in Higher Education, international best practices, university standards, and Training Policy;
    • Attend to queries relating to residence facilities from students, staff, and other stakeholders;

    Management of Cleaning Services:

    • Provide overall management regarding cleaning and related activities in residences;
    • Compile annual cleaning plans and monitor implementation;
    • Keep track of cleaning services contracts, and ensure delivery is as per contract specifications;
    • Supervision of cleaning staff and cleaning schedules;
    • Monitor service providers to ensure the standard of outsourced services, which include but are not limited to, gardening, sanitary, cleaning and pest control;
    • Liaise with the Logistics Division on various cleaning supplies and assets requirements, etc.;

    Human Resources and Financial Management:

    • Strategic planning for staff;
    • Manage staff, performance and discipline;
    • Participate in recruitment and appointments;
    • Oversee all human resources processes;
    • Plan for units’ financial expenses;
    • Adhere to university policies for finance and human recourse;
    • Monitor and approve expenses; 

    Divisional Strategic Management and Planning:

    • Develop unit’s strategic plan to contribute to the departmental plans;
    • Liaise with relevant stakeholders to implement plan;
    • Implementation of plans for strategic goal outputs.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Relevant Bachelor’s or B-tech degree;
    • A total of five years’ experience in/as:
    • Management in building maintenance, repairs and cleaning services;
    • Financial management;
    • Human resources management, and knowledge of employee relations legislation;
    • Occupational health and safety legislation and policies.

    Professor - Department of Virology - Faculty of Health Sciences

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate Virology modules for the Department of Medical Virology;
    • Supervising of PhD/MSc/MMed/BSc Honours students in the fields of Virology;
    • Publishing in the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) approved journals;
    • Applying and securing research grants for national and international projects;

    Senior Investigation Officer - Department of Security Services

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Responsible for comprehensively handling reported incidents (crime, injuries, misconduct) involving UP staff, students, visitors and/or the public as well as users of UP facilities from initial investigation, trauma support, drafting of dossiers, preparations for the court case up to acting as a witness during court cases. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Launching proactive crime prevention and security actions;
    • Provide and facilitate information, support and guidance to different groups, key persons and individuals;

    First Animal Caretaker, Onderstepoort Veterinary Animal Research Unit

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Cleaning and disinfecting of the units of the OVARU animals that includes, (but not limited to) farm animals, avian, canine, rabbits, rodents and non-human primates or any other species required according to projects at the OVARU;
    • Feeding of animals
    • Provide animal care and husbandry
    • Assisting researchers, para-veterinarians; and colleagues in other units with the handling of animals during procedures;
    • Prepare animals for procedures (e.g., shaving)
    • Operating the autoclave; and
    • Perform driving duties at OVARU with regards to the collection of animals and food from suppliers when required.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Grade 12;

    • Proven knowledge of the proper and ethical handling of animals.

    Lecturer (Counselling Psychology)

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be expected to:

    • Engage in teaching, curriculum development, and co-ordination of modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
    • Supervise postgraduate research commensurate with the post level;
    • Supervise practical work in the MA (Counselling Psychology) programme, commensurate with the post level;
    • Conduct research commensurate with the level of appointment and actively contribute to the Department’s research profile;

    • Ability to lecture student psychologists in at least one of the following modalities: psychodynamic psychotherapy, narrative therapy, person-centred therapy, and/or group therapy;
    • Evidence of research productivity (e.g., conference presentations; publications in peer-reviewed journals or equivalent; significant progress in PhD studies).

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Professional practice experience as a Counselling Psychologist;
    • Ability to train student psychologists;
    • Ability to lecture in at least two, but preferably more, of the following areas on undergraduate level: introductory psychology, biological psychology, cognitive psychology, psychological assessment, social psychology, developmental psychology, community psychology, critical psychology;
    • Demonstrated research focus, preferably aligned with departmental thematic areas.

    • Registration with the SAVC as a specialist;
    • At least two full peer-reviewed paper in an accredited scientific journal as author or co-author;
    • Experience with student supervision (clinical and academic);
    • At least 5 years significant experience in managing staff; and
    • Appropriate vision for the Department.

    Associate Professor

    • A veterinary degree and registration with the SAVC or eligibility to register;
    • An appropriate MMedVet-degree and/or equivalent specialty board certification appropriate to the disciplines within the Department;
    • Registration with the SAVC as a specialist;
    • Teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level
    • At least five full papers in an accredited scientific journal as senior author or co-author in the last five years;
    • High-profile in the veterinary profession on national level;
    • Substantial and demonstrable experience in managing academic, and/or technical support staff;
    • Recognised academic status as a researcher, through publications and post-graduate student supervision; and
    • Appropriate vision for the Department.

    Professor

    • A veterinary degree and registration with the SAVC or eligibility to register;
    • A PhD appropriate to the disciplines within the Department or Registration with the South African Veterinary Council as a specialist or eligibility to register with the Council as a specialist or international board certification in a discipline within the department.;
    • High-profile in the veterinary profession on national and international level;
    • Recognised academic status in the field through outstanding research, a strong publication record and post-graduate student supervision and experience in grantsmanship;
    • Substantial and demonstrable experience in managing academic, research and technical support staff; and
    • Appropriate vision for the Department.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication and negotiation skills; and
    • Experience in high-level liaison with internal and external stakeholder and professional bodies.

    • Proven knowledge and competence in Equine Medicine;

    • Five or more research-based full papers in an accredited scientific journal as senior author and/or co-author in the last five years. The research should be focused towards a particular subject area (e.g. specific disease or condition) and not be broad. 
    • Four years veterinary experience with three years’ experience in predominantly Small Animal Medicine.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Patient care (monitoring, feeding, handling and assisting with procedures etc);

    Department of Human Resources - Senior Manager HR Legal

    THE INCUMBENT WILL BE RESPONSIBLE TO:

    • Provide input into the development of relevant strategic solutions for the effective management of Employee Relations and Wellness in the workplace.;
    • Provide input into the development of the annual departmental implementation plan and calendar;
    • Ensure the division achieves its targets as indicated in the HR strategic and business plan relevant to the division;

    • Specialist experience in labour law if currently a practising attorney, Advocate or Labour Consultant;
    • Experience representing management at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) either as a representative or Commissioner.
