    Research Assistant (Two posts) - 2 positions

    Duties

    • Performing all study activities according to the agreed protocols, SOPs and timeframes;
    • Recruiting, consenting and enrolling study participants;
    • Taking on tasks associated with oversight for protocol field implementation;
    • Collecting quantitative (survey) data electronically (using tablets) and through headcounts;
    • Collecting qualitative data through focus groups and in-depth interviews (using an audio recorder and field notes);
    • Implementing discreet data analyses with the support of socio-behavioural science researchers;
    • Co/Authoring academic manuscripts with the support of socio-behavioural science researchers;
    • Liaising with the study coordinator on a regular basis;
    • Maintaining high research standards, including data safety, integrity, and anonymity;
    • Attending all necessary project trainings, meetings, and calls;
    • Representing the interests of the research in community forums with integrity and transparency.

    Job Requirements      

    • Postgraduate degree in a social science (e.g., psychology, sociology, or public health);
    • Experience in the research environment or in health care facilities;
    • Experience in study recruitment and informed consent;
    • Experience collecting quantitative and qualitative data;
    • The ability to foster a collaborative relationship with health staff and research participants;
    • The ability to speak, read and write English and Afrikaans or isiXhosa fluently;
    • The ability to translate idiomatically from isiXhosa/Afrikaans to English without sacrificing nuance;
    • Excellent written communication skills;
    • Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to work within an interdisciplinary and diverse team;
    • A goal-oriented disposition and the skills to solve problems independently and effectively;
    • Excellent computer literacy with sound knowledge of the Microsoft package of programmes, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.

    Lecturer: Auditing - 2 positions

    Duties 

    • Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Undertaking learning, teaching and assessment activities in undergraduate and / or postgraduate modules;
    • Supervising postgraduate students in Accountancy and related research fields;
    • Engaging in research and publishing academic work in Accountancy and related fields in reputable academic and peer-reviewed journals;
    • Participating in community interaction / social impact initiatives; 
    • Contributing to academic administration and service-rendering.

    Job Requirements   

    • An appropriate SAICA accredited Honour's degree in Accounting, or a postgraduate diploma in Accounting, or SAICA accredited equivalent qualification; 
    • Registration as a Chartered Accountant (SA) or eligible to register;
    • At least three years' practical experience (which includes the relevant training contract period) in external auditing;
    • Specialist knowledge in the subject area of the corporative  governance of technology; 
    • Academic excellence and/or proven academic research experience (Master's  or PhD). Take note: a full academic transcript must accompany the application. Applications without this will be regarded as incomplete;
    • At least three years' lecturing experience within the SAICA CA(SA) curriculum;
    • Committed to research;
    • The ability to supervise postgraduate studies in the corporate governance of technology;

    Administrative Officer - Earth Sciences - 2 positions

    Duties

    • Managing and administration of the postgraduate admission and examination processes;
    • Managing departmental databases (students, research);
    • Marketing departmental initiatives and managing the departmental website;
    • Providing general departmental administrative support

    Job Requirements

    • Diploma in administrative management or equivalent qualification (at least an NQF level 6 or equivalent);
    • Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;

    Assistant Technical Officer - 2 positions

    Duties

    • Providing technical support for undergraduate practicals in Entomology and Conservation Ecology;
    • Providing technical support for research;
    • Providing technical support to personnel and postgraduate students;
    • Training postgraduates on the use of specific field and laboratory equipment;
    • Maintaining the Department's insect collection;
    • Preparing and appropriately storing specimens for inclusion in the insect collection;
    • Curating the Department's insect collection;

    Job Requirements

    • MSc (with a major in Entomology);

    • Demonstrated computer literacy in MS Office, such as Excel and Word and webpage maintenance;
    • Good communication and organisational skills.

    Recommendation

    Faculty Librarian: Science - 2 positions

    Duties 

    • Strategic planning and management, and implementing strategic goals for providing information services and research support to the Faculty of Science;
    • Providing information services and research support to all clients of the Library and Information Service with specialisation in science;
    • Subject specific information literacy and digital skills training, generic training and the creation of e-learning programmes;
    • Creating and applying new and innovative services with the support of appropriate systems/programs  to reach clients, eg., Moodle, LibGuides, Camtasia, virtual services tools and artificial intelligence tools;

    Developing the collection;

    Administrative Officer - Language Centre - 2 positions

    Duties

    General administrative support:

    • Providing administrative support to the Language Centre (scheduling meetings and planned activities, monitoring diary, taking minutes during meetings, etc.);
    • Receiving visitors, interacting with clients, and effectively managing email and telephonic enquiries;
    • Keeping accurate administrative records;
    • Performing asset administration, as needed.

    Course administration:

    • Carrying out administration for short courses within the Language Centre;
    • Ensuring efficient course administration for credit-bearing courses (uploading student marks and student feedback, and handling test administration);
    • Conducting layout and format checks on printed material (course-work books and tests), as needed.

    Financial administration and budget control:

    • Carrying out the financial administration required for daily operations in short-course portfolios and credit-bearing courses in a timeous and efficient manner and in line with Stellenbosch University's financial policies;
    • Managing petty cash for short courses;
    • Maintaining effective budget control with regard to purchasing goods and services in accordance with course budgets;
    • Providing ad hoc assistance with the annual budgeting process.

    Job Requirements

    • A post-matric qualification in office administration or a relevant field;
    • At least three years' administrative work experience, including experience in short course administration and/or academic course administration;
    • At least two years' experience in financial administration (including invoicing, refunds, debtor administration and other standard bookkeeping tasks); 
    • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook);
    • Excellent interpersonal skills;
    • Good verbal and written communication skills;
    • The ability to work independently as well as in a team;
    • Good organisational skills and the ability to adhere to deadlines.
