    Assistant Technical Officer

    Duties

    • Providing technical support for undergraduate practicals in Entomology and Conservation Ecology;
    • Providing technical support for research;
    • Providing technical support to personnel and postgraduate students;
    • Training postgraduates on the use of specific field and laboratory equipment;
    • Maintaining the Department's insect collection;
    • Preparing and appropriately storing specimens for inclusion in the insect collection;
    • Curating the Department's insect collection;
    • Setting up and managing a database of the Department's insect collection;
    • Performing administrative duties, such as all administration pertaining to orders for chemicals/materials/equipment required for undergraduate practicals and research projects, including obtaining and comparing quotes, ordering, and deliveries;
    • Organising the servicing and maintenance of all departmental laboratory equipment;
    • Providing technical support for departmental outreach and marketing:
    • Open Day;
    • Webpage and marketing material.

    Job Requirements

    • MSc (with a major in Entomology);
    • Knowledge and experience of procedures and techniques used in field and laboratory research;
    • Experience in the collection, preparation, and storage of insect and plant specimens;
    • Demonstrated computer literacy in MS Office, such as Excel and Word and webpage maintenance;
    • Good communication and organisational skills.

    Recommendation

    • Experience in managing undergraduate practicals and scientific research;
    • Experience in insect curation.
