    Training Facilitator

    Job Advert Summary

    • The role would require the delivery of effective in-house and accredited driver training to new and existing drivers and operators. Conduct assessments and behavior-based coaching so that Unitrans drivers and operators are equipped, prepared, and qualified to meet safety, operational, and customer standards.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Minimum of 5 years experience 
    • Registered Assessor 

    Facilitation and practical knowledge of the below Unit Standards:

    • 123254 Operate a Vehicle Combination
    • 123253 Operate a Heavy Rigid Vehicle
    • 262747 Operate a Front-End Loader
    • 262745 Operate an Excavator
    • 262727 Operate a Backhoe/Loader 
    • 262745 Operate an Articulated Dump Truck
    • 262712 Operate a Skid Steer Loader
    • 260780 Operate a Tele Logger 
    • Valid EME certificates 
    • Valid unendorsed Code EC licence with PrDP
    • Experience in the Mining Industry will be an advantage 
    • Registration with the MQA (advantageous) 

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Conduct practical driver and operator skills assessments prior to employment and make recommendations to the Contract Management team.
    • Continuously assessing current and prospective driver and operator competencies and improve on shortcomings
    • Present training to learners, explaining and discussing content, clarifying terminology, and illustrating examples to ensure understanding and 
    • learning of course content.
    • Testing and on-route evaluation and training of drivers and operators
    • Regular (as prescribed) in-cab assessments on drivers and operators
    • Identify training needs from incidents/accidents and recommend necessary training requirements to meet required performance standards and
    •  retrain where necessary
    • Periodical site visits to determine the best entry, loading, offloading procedures and exit routes.
    • Adjusting Journey Management plans after in cab assessments, site visits and/or using google maps, when required.
    • Facilitating all Unit Standard, internal and customer training content as required by the relevant Division.
    • Record keeping and reporting on all training interventions completed (weekly).
    • Perform periodic and reinforcement training of staff on trucks, EME and basic safety training.
    • Conduct all new and adhoc training interventions as required by management.
    • Using incidents, accidents, Drive cam reports, mix telematics and fuel consumption reports and compile training plans to improve driving skills 
    • and prevent reoccurrence of incidents in collaboration with the Senior Training Facilitator for the Division.
    • On request assist the SHERQ teams with accident/ incident investigation, when and where necessary.
    • Liaise and submit documentation for certification purposes.
    • Practical driver training as per the company training matrix, the purpose to improve driving skills, behaviour and fuel consumption. .
    • Take responsibility to change the behavior of new and current drivers within the company by means of training and coaching.
    • Periodically facilitate safety meetings and safety stand downs to improve behavior of drivers and operators.
    • Conduct training on vehicle types, trailer types and loading/offloading procedures in the Division.
    • Act as contingency during crisis situations

    Tyre Assistant

    Job Advert Summary    

    • Unitrans Consumer is looking to employ an experience Tyre Assistant/Fitter.
    • What unique contribution does this work make to the organisation?
    • Will regularly inspect components related to vehicle tires, for example, rims, hubs, studs and nuts to check for excessive wear or cracks, damage to the beads, performing periodic tests on the tires.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Qualification: Transport maintenance/professional technical training in mechanics / Minimum requirements Grade 12/Matric
    • At least 3 years in the same or similar position
    • Must have tyre fitter experience 
    • Must have a valid drivers license
    • Knowledge of mandatory health and safety standards at work
    • Proactive, confident, assertive
    • Ability to work under pressure and deliver within working hours

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Responsible for ensuring that tyres used by vehicles, trucks or tractors, and heavy equipment are in good condition for the road and will ensure the safety of vehicle users.
    • Responsible for ensuring that tyres use on vehicles,truck tractors and trailers are in good condition and ensure that all wheelnuts has been torque and pressures corrected.
    • Responsible for the appropriate and more ecological disposal of scrap metal and must repair and replace vehicle components related to tires, whether inner tubes, rims, wheels or others.
    • Responsible to mount and de-mound tyres in rims, make sure rims has no cracks or any visible demages.
    • Ensure that tyres are inflated as specified by their manufacturers, you will stock tyres weekly.
    • Inflate fitted tyres in tyre safety cage. Inflate tyres to Unitrans Supply Chain Solutions requirements as state in tyre policy.
    • Carrying out road repairs.
    • Road tyre repairs to be done by breakdown vehicle and pre-fitted tyres to use on road breakdowns.
    • Rotate tyres to different positions on vehicles using hand tools.
    • Rotate tyres to different positions on the vehicles by using correct hand/airtools with the correct PPE.
    • Seal punctures in tubeless tyres by inserting adhesive material and expanding rubber plugs into drilling with hand tools.
    • Do onsite puncture repairs by using the correct tools(tyre buffer) glue and gaitors to ensure good lasting repairs. Apply rubber cement to polished tire casings before the vulcanization process.
    • Buff the defective areas of the inner tubes using scrapers.
    • Glue boots (tyre patches) over ruptures in tyre casings using rubber cement.
    • Inspect tire casings for defects such as punctures and tears.
    • Raise vehicles with hydraulic jacks and tressles to assure safe working space.
    • Reinstall the wheels on the vehicles after completing the job.
    • All wheelnuts to be torqued after job is done.
    • Separate tube tires from wheels using rubber hammers and metal bars or mechanical tire changers.
    • Fit and strip tyres from rims with the correct tyre levers and beadbreaker(tube tipe/tubeless)and rubber hammers.
    • Unscrew the vehicle's wheels and remove them, using tire irons and other hand and power tools.
    • Unscrew wheels from hubs by using the correct impact wrench and Torque all wheels after each job.
    • Make sure all tyres are branded.
    • Make sure all wheels got wheel indicators(checkpoints)on and each valve a valve cap.
    • Locate punctures in tubeless tires by visual inspection or by immersing inflated tires in water baths and watching for air bubbles.
