    Process Controller-Material Tester - Middelburg

    Description

    The main purpose of this role is to test incoming samples.  The incumbent is responsible for performing the tests as per defined procedures to produce valid test results whilst meeting the team goals and objectives as defined in the balanced scorecard and ensuring the accreditation requirements are met. The incumbent will be responsible for testing samples received at the Mechanical Lab and will further release the test results while meeting team goals 

    Requirements

    Key Performance Indicators include the following: 

    • The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the tests are conducted as per procedure in order to produce valid, accurate test results.
    •  Maintain, check and calibrate equipment, where relevant, as per procedure and keep the required records
    • Preparing the necessary reagents to perform testing
    • Performing basic troubleshooting in terms of tests and equipment, notifying management of required quality incident investigations (QIIs) and taking immediate corrective action to contain
    • Responsible for adhering to and complying with the laboratory SHE and quality management requirements
    • Responsible for monitoring the out hold to ensure material is released timeously
    • Reporting low stock levels to ensure orders are placed timorously and checking goods received are in order

    Qualifications:

    • Must be in possession of a National Diploma in Metallurgy / Material Science or equivalent

    Experience:

    • A minimum of 1-2 years’ relevant laboratory experience in testing and quality principles
    • Experience in a sample preparation, metallurgical testing and/or steel manufacturing environment will be an added advantage

    Skills:

    • Computer literate
    • Good verbal and written communication
    • Willing to work shifts, take initiative, function under pressure and work with limited supervision

    Mechanical Technician - Middelburg

    Main duties & Responsibilities:

    Mechanical Technician is responsible to provide technical support to the day shift personnel, ensuring maximum plant availability, efficiency, quality and reliability maintained. Perform root cause failure analysis and investigate production and quality related issues. Incumbent will be required to lead projects for both improvements and new developments in the plant. During shutdowns periods he/she will be involved with shut planning and supervision. The incumbent may periodically act in the position of section Engineer to gain experience with management and working with team managers. 

     Responsibilities include maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all mechanical and hydraulic- equipment.

    • Support Maintenance Team on breakdowns and shutdowns
    • Refurbishment of specialized spares, risk identification and management thereof
    • Develop contingency procedures, and do plant modifications in line with new technology
    • Ensure legal compliance
    • Liaise with project department and manage capital projects
    • Update LRU system
    • Assist with SQIN meetings with suppliers
    • Stores management updating item codes as needed according to ECP’s
    • Perform standby duties
    • Compiling Capex’s
    • Assist with continuous plant improvement

    Requirements

    Person Specifications

    • Minimum qualification of S4 or N6 Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, with 4 years of relevant experience. 
    • The ideal candidate will hold a B Tech or B Eng and or GCC in Mechanical Engineering with 2 years of relevant experience.
    • Plant process and equipment knowledge will be advantages.
    • Knowledge of Hydraulic, Pneumatic and complex mechanical systems.
    • Must have sound knowledge of planned maintenance principles
    • Motivated self-starter with the ability to think analytically 
    • Flexible and willing to work overtime when required
    • Good communication skills with ability to liaise with suppliers and colleagues on all levels

    Snr HR Business Partner (Gr 5) - Middelburg

    Description

    •  The incumbent will be responsible for the total HR function within a particular business unit or departments.
    • Providing proactive HR service to the respective business unit relating to recruitment, industrial relations, training(soft skills), employee benefits, policies, organisational structures, performance management, employee assistance and HR related administration.
    • The incumbent is responsible for providing subject matter expertise regarding HR related advice on a daily basis.
    • The incumbent must also ensure that the business unit adheres to the relevant HR policies and procedures.
    • From time to time the incumbent will take on HR related projects, and may be required to do HR related research as the need arises.
    • The incumbent will in the majority of times function independently without direct supervision
    • The incumbent will deal with shop floor shop stewards
    • The incumbent will be responsible to actively resolve shop floor grievances

    Requirements

    • B.Com Degree: HR Management or related subject field Minimum 10 years’ experience in a generalist HR role, preferably in a manufacturing or mining environment.
    • 8 Years managing trade unions
    • Relevant Legislation – Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act and Employment Equity Act.
    • Individual must be computer literate in Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
    • Must have excellent communication skills and in particular excellent English speaking, reading and writing skills.
    • Good conflict handling skills.
    • Knowledge of handling or managing trade unions or factory shop stewards matters at the floor level.
    • Individual must be able to work with and communicate with all levels of employees up to senior and executive level.
    • Be a self-starter and have the ability to work independently.
    • Sound judgement and decision making skills.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Possess a high level of energy and a high stress tolerance level.
    • Excellent administration skills.
    • Disciplined and tenacious.
    • A clear sense of urgency.
    • The ability to deal with a number of issues at the same time.
    • Must be Proactive.

    Systems Engineer - Level 2 (Closing date: 31 January 2024)

    Main Duties & Responsibilities

    • System Integration- Have an in-depth understanding of all the different systems within his/her area.
    • Process Improvement - Have thorough experience within his/her responsible area to be able to suggest production process improvements.
    • Interfacing (Internal and External) - Contribute on a complex technical level with both internal and external.
    • Systems Standards - Review current standards with the objective to continuously improve the standards applied.
    • System Development - actively form part of a team that designs, develops, implements and commissions new systems within and outside of his/her area of responsibility.
    • System Configuration design - Understands the current configuration of the systems.  Must be able to add equipment to the infrastructure with guidelines that was laid down.
    • Database design - Able to design and audit a database design implemented within his/her area. Able to analyze processes and business principles to determine data requirements

    Special Working Conditions - Overtime and Standby will be required

    Requirements

    Necessary qualifications / Knowledge

    •  B.Com (IT) / BSc (IT) / B.Eng (IT) with minimum 2 years relevant experience

            OR

    •  N.Dip (IT) with minimum 4 years relevant experience
    •  2-4 years’ experience in the business with solid business and product knowledge.


    Skills and abilities

    •  Requires thorough knowledge of IT principles
    •  Knowledge of System Software, Databases, Development Software, Application Software, SDLC.

    Experience
    2 years Practical hands-on experience in:

    •  Plant Automation, Systems Design and Implementation. 
    •  Process control, Programming
    •  System architecture design, Operating systems, Automation concepts,
    •  Database Design, System integration, Production process knowledge in terms of steelmaking, metallurgy, material routing and the Columbus product range

    Other
