    Senior Lecturer / Lecturer, Drama & Production Studies

    Minimum Requirements:

    Senior Lecturer

    • A completed doctorate in Performing Arts or an appropriate associated field
    • A minimum of 5 years teaching experience at tertiary level or 5 years’ experience in a relevant professional field.
    • Candidates must demonstrate scholarship of teaching and must have published three papers (accredited
    • book, chapter in a book, review article, journal article, or peer-reviewed conference proceedings) in the
    • preceding three years / creative outputs. 
    • Successful supervision of at least one postgraduate student at master’s degree level. 

    Lecturer

    • A completed Masters’ degree in Performing Arts or an appropriate associated field.
    • A minimum of 3 years teaching experience or 3 years’ experience in a relevant professional field.

     Additional Requirements

    • Applicants must be computer literate, possess demonstrable skills as a lighting and sound designer and be equipped to lecture both theory and practical in the field of Performing Arts within the Department.
    • Industry experience in Designing Lighting or Sound for professional performances, is a prerequisite with a portfolio of evidence, as the candidate will be expected to mentor future lighting and sound designers. The candidate must be able to work long hours, late nights, and some weekends, as required for Production work.

     Further Requirements:

    Expertise in the following areas:

    • A working knowledge of Theatre History, Arts Administration/Production Management, Lighting and Sound
    • A background in at least 3 academic years of general Performing Arts coursework or/and Experience in the tertiary Performing Arts field
    • Some experience in working in a festival environment will be an advantage.

    Summary of Duties:

    The successful candidate will be expected to:

    • Teach and examine course work for the Higher Certificate in Performing Arts Technology, Diploma in Drama, and Advanced Diploma in Drama, as assigned by the HOD.
    • Complete all administrative duties related to the teaching of the courses and mentorship of the programme, as well as specific administrative duties as allocated by the HOD.
    • Must be prepared to work after hours and some weekends, in preparation for productions – all staff are expected to undertake supervision of students working in the theatre in addition to their teaching
    • Attend all Departmental functions, productions, staff meetings, etc.
    • Be prepared to engage or conduct research activities
    • Participate in research development and curriculum development activities
    • The incumbent will also need to work closely with both staff and students during production work, and must be able to supervise students during rehearsals.
    • Take initiative, communicate and collaborate creatively with Drama staff as well as work collegially in support of academic and administrative goals.

    Head of Department - Visual Communication Design

    Minimum requirements

    • A PhD in the relevant discipline. Relevance in this context will depend on the cluster of academic programmes located in the department, namely Graphic Design, Photography and Interior Design
    • Professor, Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer
    • Five (5) years’ experience in higher education or academic leadership
    • A record of scholarship

    Duration

    • Five (5) year fixed contract, renewable for one additional term based on performance

    Summary of duties

    • Provide leadership to the department in respect of Teaching & Learning and Research & Engagement
    • Engage with student queries and complaints regarding the Department/Programme
    • Represent the department in relevant fora
    • Manage and supervise staff including
    • The allocation of workload
    • Approval of leave
    • Enhancing staff relations and building the team towards a student-centred department
    • Attending to matters such as study leave, grievances, disputes, training & development
    • Appointment of part time and replacement staff
    • Programme and project budgeting
    • Enhancing Faculty projects e.g. Postgraduate recruitment and supervision, student support programmes, orientation, graduation rate etc. in line with institutional targets and mandates
    • The successful candidate will receive a Non-pensionable Allowance inclusive of cell phone allowance of R10,000 per month for the headship in addition to the salary offered at the level of Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor or Professor that the successful candidate will be appointed against, whichever is applicable.

    Lecturer, Photography

    Minimum Requirements:

     Lecturer

    • A completed Master’s degree in Photography or an appropriate associated field. (A PhD would be an advantage.)
    • A minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience at tertiary level, OR, 3 years’ experience in industry. (A portfolio is needed as evidence of industry work.)

     Additional Recommendations:

    • Comprehensive photographic studio experience is a pre-requisite.
    • Be able to create updated, contemporary and innovative content at degree and/or honours level. (Content would include new media platforms in line with 4IR).
    • Be able to teach Photographic Theory and Applied Photography at degree and/or honours level.
    • A combination of analogue (b/w darkroom processes) and digital photography.
    • Must register for doctoral study within three years of appointment.
    • Evidence of research or creative output activities (industry commissions if from industry).
    • Experience in teaching and learning technologies, including e-learning would be an advantage.
    • Experience in teaching English to second-language students.
    • Possess a working knowledge of post-production Photography software, such as Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
    • Possess a working knowledge of DSLR video/multimedia and Adobe Premier Pro.

     Summary of Duties:

     The successful candidate will be expected to:

    •  Register for a PhD within two years of appointment, if not in possession of a PhD.
    • Lecture in the Photography Programme at degree and/or honours level.
    • Set and mark tests, assignments and portfolios.
    • Develop new content/curriculum for the degree and/or honours qualification(s).
    • Engage in departmental administration duties.
    • Develop materials specific for online learners.
    • Participate in individual and/or programme research projects.
    • Attend meetings prescribed by the Head of Department.
    • Participate in DUT academic life and serve on at least one committee.
    • Undertake appropriate duties as assigned by the Programme Co-ordinator/Head of Department.
    • Conduct research and publish research outputs or produce creative research outputs.

    Employee Relations and Wellness Coordinator

    Minimum Requirements:

    • A Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Administration (NQF Level 6)
    • 2 years’ experience in Human Resources Coordination Experience, specifically in the employee relations/compliance/transformation/wellness functional area

    Summary of Duties:

    • Deal with basic queries from employees and management.
    • Keep a record of all ER cases and outcomes.
    • Arrange logistics relating to hearings and CCMA cases.
    • Arrange meetings with stakeholders as required to deal with ER issues.
    • Keep up to date records on changes to Acts and legislation.
    • Deal with invoices and queries from vendors
    • Keep a file and up to date version of the Wellness policy accessible to staff.
    • Monitor employee wellness programme offered by external service providers.
    • Distribute internal communication of employee wellness.
    • Maintain the Employee Wellness monitoring and evaluation system.
    • Update the national calendar on wellness interventions.
    • Update and type reports as required.
    • Coordinate training (in conjuction with Talent & Skills Facilitator), including venue booking, travel arrangements, catering and maintenance of training venues.
    • Set up rooms for various training events relevant to the function.
    • Manage the ordering and delivery of relevant training material, ensuring that these are readily available, delivered timeously, correct on receipt, properly stored and dispatched.
    • Plan and distribute training materials for Wellness or ER training.
    • Support and coordinate Wellness events.
    • Address basic Wellness and Employee Relations (ER) queries for business, referring to relevant ambits members, where necessary
    • Coordinate invoice and expense claim management for the unit.
    • Distribute Wellness and ER communication as required.
    • Maintain and update all systems and documentation relating to Wellness, ER, and Compliance
    • Organise internal until events.
