    Content Developer

    What you will do    

    • Reporting to the ACL Content Manager, your role as a Content Developer will give you scope to make an immediate impact in a fast-moving environment. Our ACL department automates legal documents for the Canadian market for litigation practice, including statutory court forms shipped with ACL, as well as general legal and correspondence documents customised on behalf of our clients.

    You will have a wide and varied role, but we think the most important responsibilities will be;

    • Document construction, formatting and styling, using MSWord as well as proprietary MSWord-like user interfaces.
    • Researching and understanding the environment in which a document operates, applying that research to your work.
    • Analysing the degree to which the document should be automated.
    • Marking-up and automating the document using in-house programming tools involving document logic ("if then/else"), fill points/stop-codes and dialogs.
    • Have the scope to work to a technical level, but still with creativity.
    • Testing, trouble shooting, and maintaining the documents developed

    What do you need to be considered?    

    • We know you will have a wide range of skills and experience, but we think the most important to thrive in this role would be;
    • Must have advanced word processing skills in general and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word in particular, being able to understand the nuances of styling, paragraph formatting etc.
    • Experience using macros would be beneficial
    • Be analytical, structured, organized, methodical and logical in your work
    • Must have an eye for detail and enjoy working to high standards.
    • Enjoy working collaboratively as part of a team
    • Able to pick up new skills quickly, with a drive to continually develop yourself.
    • Be able to manage time well and work accurately at a fast pace.
    • Good working knowledge of Windows Operating System, MS Office, Internet and MS Outlook.
    • Be able to work from our Cape Town office – this is an on-site position.

    Software Engineer - ACL

    What you will do    

    • This position is within the ACL (Automated Civil Litigation) software development team – ACL is a document automation/case management solution used by over 500 law firms across Canada.
    • You will be involved in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) in this team. We strive to keep up with the latest technologies and software innovations, and as a valued team member you will have a voice at all times to bring new ideas.
    • You will have a wide and varied role working on both legacy tech and greenfield projects, with your day to day including;
    • Working in and alongside a team of passionate developers following Agile development methodologies and clean architecture principles to maintain our existing code base
    • Research new technology, principles or methodologies to keep up to date with new tech and ways of working
    • Contribute to the architecture, design, development and maintenance of existing and new desktop and web applications
    • Follow and champion best software engineering practices
    • Exercise version control discipline to maintain source code

    What do you need to be considered?    

    • We know you will have a wide and varied skill set, but we think to thrive in this role you need to have;
    • Recent, commercial experience in designing and building software applications using C#, .NET and/or .NET Core
    • Practical experience in designing and developing web and desktop applications
    • Experience in backend technologies such as REST or SOAP, able to interact with and design REST API’s
    • Experience with Git as version control
    • Experience with SQL and writing SQL scripts
    • Exposure to Agile ways of working and an understanding of the SOLID principles
    • Be willing to learn and always looking for ways to improve
    • Be a proactive problem solver with a positive attitude to challenges
    • Able to work on-site 5 days a week from our Cape Town office
