    Environmental Intern

    Description

    • The successful candidate will learn to carry out project management and administrative tasks, environmental impact assessments, reporting writing skills, networking and client relationship skills. The candidate will be required to perform day to day office administrative tasks.

    Requirements

    • Assist in supporting the environmental legislative processes applicable to the relevant country, under the guidance of senior team members;
    • Stay informed about applicable environmental legislation and its potential implications on ongoing projects;
    • Support the team in maintaining high-quality standards in service delivery and project outputs;
    • Participate in selected marketing and business development activities, such as preparing presentation materials or attending meetings with senior staff;
    • Provide support to team management activities, including:
    • Assisting with resource tracking and workload planning.
    • Helping coordinates day-to-day office and project administration.
    • Assisting with budget-related documentation and forecasting tasks.
    • Supporting the onboarding and training of fellow interns or junior team members;
    • Gain practical exposure by supporting and observing the following project components:
    • Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) in line with relevant legislation;
    • Environmental permitting and mining application processes;
    • Interdisciplinary collaboration with specialists;
    • Stakeholder and public consultation processes;
    • Monitoring of project schedules and budget compliance;
    • Liaison with clients and authorities;
    • Assist with compiling, formatting, and reviewing reports for submission to clients and regulatory bodies;
    • Participate in fieldwork assignments, including work in remote or physically demanding environments, under supervision;
    • Perform general administrative tasks to support the environmental team and contribute to the smooth running of projects.

    Qualifications

    • Post graduate degree in Environmental Management or similar.
    • Driver's license is advantageous.

    Rehabilitation Intern

    Requirements

    • Assisting with the compilation of rehabilitation plans and financial provision estimates;
    • A good understanding of soil science and how soils relate to rehabilitation;
    • Knowledge related to plants and suitable plants for rehabilitation (especially grasses that can be utilized for rehabilitation);
    • Thorough understanding of different techniques that can be used for rehabilitation;
    • Legal knowledge associated with rehabilitation;
    • Assist with client assessments and the development of individualized rehabilitation plans
    • Participate in team meetings and contribute to multidisciplinary care planning
    • Knowledge of potential shortcomings related to existing sites that have been rehabilitated and how to address these shortcomings;
    • Knowledge of monitoring protocols that can be implemented post rehabilitation to monitor the success of rehabilitation;
    • Good verbal and writing skills;

    Qualifications

    • BSc degree in Ecology or Natural Sciences (or similar)
    • Driver's license is advantageous.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

    Mine Closure Intern

    Requirements

    • Assist in the development of mine closure strategies, plans, and procedures under the guidance of senior consultants;
    • Support the review and gap analysis of client mine closure strategies, and contribute to the preparation of findings reports;
    • Observe and contribute to discussions providing advice and recommendations to clients regarding mine closure implementation;
    • Assist with project administration tasks for closure-related projects, helping to ensure timely delivery within budget and quality standards;
    • Participate in the preparation of mine closure project plans to support decommissioning and rehabilitation activities, in consultation with the project team and client;
    • Support the compilation of mine closure cost estimations to meet regulatory requirements and assist in creating frameworks for cost management;
    • Contribute to audits and reviews of mine closure plans through data collection, analysis, and documentation;
    • Help monitor and evaluate mine closure plans across different phases of the mine lifecycle;
    • Assist in the development of alternative closure strategies aimed at minimizing environmental impacts;
    • Engage with internal team members and support communications with external stakeholders where appropriate;
    • Participate in business development and marketing support tasks, such as preparing materials or attending meetings with the team.

    Qualifications

    • BSc. Engineering/Environmental Science or similar.
    • MSc. Degree would be beneficial.
    • Certificate in GIS would be beneficial.
    • Experience with Model Maker Systems would be beneficial.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license.

    Wetlands & Soils Intern

    Requirements

    • Assist with the planning and execution of national and international field surveys under the guidance of experienced specialists.
    • Support the application of WET-Services Series and various habitat survey techniques, including the use of GPS, aerial photography, sonar imagery, and topographical maps.
    • Learn to identify and classify soils using the South African Soil Classification System (2018);
    • Participate in fieldwork, including working in remote or challenging environments.
    • Observe and support the identification and delineation of wetlands using the South African Practical Field Procedure for Identification and Delineation of Wetlands and Riparian Areas (DWAF, 2005);
    • Assist in conducting wetland and soil impact assessments as part of broader project teams.
    • Contribute to sensitivity analyses and the development of environmental recommendations.
    • Assist in compiling scientific reports and preparing data for review by senior team members or submission to relevant authorities.
    • Support wetland and soil delineation activities under supervision.
    • Contribute to Land Use, Land Capability, and Agricultural Assessments as part of a multidisciplinary team.

    Qualifications

    • BSc. degree (Honours/MSc preferred) in Environmental Sciences/ Soil Science.
    • Knowledge of Agricultural Compliance Statements, Land Use and Land Capability Assessments.
    • Knowledge of vegetation, AIP management and rehabilitation would be advantageous.
