    Description

    • Contributes towards projects

    Researcher Plant Bacteriology (Roodeplaat)

    Description

    • Initiates and manages research projects relating to plant-related bacteria, by ensuring successful completion of research projects in compliance with set standards, client needs/specifications, within budget and on time.
    • Experimental design, timeous execution, data capturing, data analysis and reporting of project deliverables according to scientific standards and in line with overall Corporate Strategy of the ARC.
    • Actively sources and secures new research opportunities, assists with identifying new business opportunities and capable of securing external funding.

    Manager: Intellectual Property Management & Commercalisation (Central Office Hatfield)

    Description

    • Identify, protect and manage IP emanating from ARC.
    • Analyse and determine the route strategy for IP and Commercialisation.
    • Assess the commercial viability of the invention/ innovation disclosed to the IPM & Comm unit.
    • Perform/Commission/oversee preliminary patent searches, assess the potential of the ARC technology to be protected and develop the IP and Commercialisation strategy (route to market). Record all invention disclosures.
    • Record all relevant information in respect of IP in the portfolio, associated protecting filings and prosecution and maintenance thereof accurately and timeously.
    • Conduct IP due diligence.
    • Promote and represent the ARC IPM & Comm function to internal and external stakeholders including training and awareness events.
    • Manage the maintenance and expansion of license agreements and relationships as appropriate and manage intellectual property licensing duties.
    • Put in place a database for all licenses of the ARC.
    • Develop and manage processes for the collection of royalties due to the ARC.
    • Ensure the benefit sharing in consultation with Finance division.
    • Put in place measures to ensure licensee due diligence terms have been achieved and royalty and milestones payments have been made and take appropriate action, supported by the Senior Manager IPM & Comm to terminate licenses when in default.
    • Conduct market and industry analysis for assessing the commercial potential of IP.
    • Develop commercialisation strategy for the chosen inventions/innovations from proof of concept to market ready products.
    • Various business models and skills in business model and business cases and techno-economic analysis.
    • Preparing and making recommendations for optimal deal structuring of potential spin-out commercialise.
    • Publicise the ARC’s IP Portfolio with the view of marketing.
    • Develops innovative marketing & branding strategies & initiatives in conjunction with marketing team to raise the profile of the IPM & Comm.
    • Develop suitable material to support marketing activities of IP.
    • Source funding opportunities for ARC’s IP, include but not limited to interacting with funding agencies and IP related funding proposal reviews.
    • Review IPM & Comm operating budget periodically and analysis trends affecting budget needs.
    • Managing all IP related and revenant legislation.
    • Audit License agreement ‘s obligations and support the SM in implementing mitigating strategies.
    • Manages the ARC’s compliance with relevant authorities and legislation.
    • Develop and implement improved office systems and procedures as required by ensuring that the office database is current with all data related to IP and granted licenses.

    Requirements

    • A Master’s Degree in technical field (e.g Agriculture or Science)
    • Law, or Business/ Finance qualification will be an added advantage.
    • 5 -8 years working experience of which 3- 5 years should be in intellectual property management, negotiating, licensing, technology advancement, and commercializing in HEI, Science council or technology-based environment.
    • Experience in policy development, programme implementations, service delivery and innovation within HEI or SC.
    • Patent Board Examinations (Group 1 or subject completed) will be Advantageous.
