Job Description:
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Develop and provide strategic advice on the implementation of Managed Operations in Stakeholder Relations strategy, policies and plans by ensuring alignment with South African legislation.
- Analyse and manage the national stakeholders' interests and requirements.
- Advise and guide operations and senior leadership on strategic engagement.
- Gather information, and analyse it from a stakeholder perspective, and provide proactive solutions to stakeholder needs.
- Reputational management in national and local government to ensure sustainability of the AAP.
- Seek partnership opportunities internally and externally for strategic business initiatives.
- Develop and implement tactical plans to manage the stakeholders’ expectations and address Anglo-American Platinum legacy issues in South Africa
- Monitor Legislative changes that impact the BBBEE, SLP and Mining Charter, and working with pillar owners to identifying gaps and strategies to close this.
- Monitor Human Rights Impacts on the BU and sites put strategies in place to prevent and mitigate these impacts.
- Supporting sites on the implementation of the Stakeholder Engagement and Human Rights elements of the AASW/IRMA
- Developing and implementing engagement plans in pursuit of Mining licences, permits, authorisations and surface leases
- Facilitate stakeholder audits working with the Group; report on the findings and compile action plans on the mitigation of shortcomings.
- Evaluate impact of engagement strategies and provide feedback to Platinum executives.
- Align the strategy, policies and plans with South African legislation and AA policies.
- Contribute to the Corporate Relations strategy on government relations, social performance and sustainability.
- Support the coordination of intervention in support of sites, BUs and executive office where required.
- Conduct stakeholder surveys and make regular reports to AAP leadership team.
This role is a Band 5 reporting to the Head of Stakeholder & Government Relations.
Qualifications:
- Degree Legal/ Socio-Political Science/Commerce
- Postgraduate or Master’s degree in business administration (MBA) – desirable/advantageous
Experience:
- 7 – 10 years relevant experience working in Stakeholder Relations or related discipline.
- Proficient knowledge of stakeholder engagement and relevant legislation (ie MPRDA/BBBEE/NEMA/Water Act/MHSA/OHSA)
- Advanced understanding of the mining industry

Develop a regional Value Creation strategy, aligned to global strategies, that delivers sustainable value by building strategic regional partnerships and ensuring commercial excellence through end-to-end sourcing and contracting & contracts management activities for strategic regional category contracts.
Safety, Health & Sustainability
- Ensure category and supplier specific safety, health & sustainability opportunities and risks are effectively contracted and managed to support the broader organizational & Supply Chain ambitions
- Ensure that regional category strategies, supplier selection criteria and agreements clearly define safety, health and sustainability performance standards and oversee the implementation and performance monitoring of these
- Ensure that the Supplier Management approach incorporates Contractor Performance Management requirements to ensure that Suppliers meet delivery expectations in a way that reduces safety related incidents
- Manage regional value creation strategies to deliver Anglo American’s safety and social performance requirements for contracting with responsible suppliers
- Determine co-innovation partnering approaches and ensure that these are embedded into strategies as relevant
Delivery & Performance
General
- Translate the global Supply Chain business strategy into a regional specific strategy, critical tasks, performance targets, plans and budgets with consideration of risk identification
- Embrace an agile Supply Chain by being adaptive and flexible to accommodate and focus on emerging and changing business priorities
Commercial Value Delivery & Supplier Partnering
- Develop regional value creation and supplier engagement strategies that align to the overall Supply Chain strategy, critical tasks, performance targets and Business Unit priorities
- Collaborate with internal technical and broader supply chain managers in the development of regional value creation strategies, business cases and joint supplier engagement priorities
- Facilitate the development of elevated strategic supplier partnerships that enable co-innovation and development of cutting-edge solutions to our business challenges with a strong focus on ESG
- Establish supplier/contractor relationships that position Anglo American as partner of choice and manage performance to ensure full value-in-use
Planning
- Responsible for sustainable value delivery planning and provide strategic input into frontloading, identification and sizing of initiatives relating to portfolio
- Ensure that all activities relating to regional sourcing and contracting events for strategic categories in the region are planned, scheduled, resourced and executed in a timely and visible manner
- Provide strategic input to target setting and progress tracking against targets including uploading and tracking thereof
- Provide input into the Supply Chain budget and resource requirements
Sourcing & Contracts Management
- Ensure that end-to-end sourcing, contracting and contracts management activities are effectively and efficiently executed for allocated portfolio (including the loading of finalized contracts onto the system to enable transactions)
- Negotiate and conclude strategic regional Category agreements in line with relevant global and regional category strategies
- Work with Group Legal to develop bespoke agreements that outline innovation, joint development, technical, commercial, relationship and performance expectations as well as associated joint initiatives
- Support the Supply Chain Supply chain manager function in the effective on-site implementation of end-toend commercial activities, clarifying roles & responsibilities in the handover process and manage resolution of escalated issues
- Ensure the execution of all contracts administrative activities, including timeous and accurate capturing of price updates for contracts in the system for all strategic regional Category contracts in the region
Inclusive Procurement
- Understand community specific ESG needs and ensure that these are addressed through sustainable value creation strategies
- Drive a culture of community development and inclusive procurement with all stakeholders, underpinned by clear objectives and aligned to the global and regional Inclusive Procurement strategies
- Ensure that initiatives and approaches in category and supplier strategies that will radically increase host community commercial participation and support the development of thriving communities, are embedded in strategic regional supplier relationships and agreements
- Embed clear Inclusive Procurement expectations, targets and initiatives in commercial agreements and manage the delivery thereof
- Support the Inclusive Procurement team to identify supplier development needs and opportunities, and support the development of solutions
Sustainability & Social
- Drive a culture of Sustainable Value through ESG, TCO initiatives, innovation, working capital and cost reduction)
- Develop an integrated, medium to long term regional category vision, aligned to the global vision, sustainable value creation strategy and associated business case, that advances Anglo American technical, community, sustainability, and financial ambitions
- Develop and ensure the implementation of value creation strategies and initiatives
- Physical Supply Chain
- Drive strong connectivity with regional materials management and warehousing teams to ensure alignment on future demand requirements, working capital optimization opportunities and the resolution of supplier non-performance
- Support the optimisation of Materials Planning through category strategy, contract and alignment with Physical Supply Chain
Supply Chain Excellence
- Work with the Centre of Excellence to define, adopt and improve commercial excellence and leading practice
- Lead the adoption of standards, new ways of working and systems usage within own team, with suppliers and key stakeholders
- Establish and oversee relevant category specific Community of Practices, to facilitate sharing and drive category technical excellence
- Monitor that supplier performance, based on contractual KPIs, is tracked and updated by relevant Supply chain manager
- Manage contractual risks and resolve escalated contractual issues and support the Supply chain manager & operational team in resolving escalated operational issues
- Ensure effective contract execution through appropriate maintenance processes (e.g. Item supersession and escalations)
People & Teams
- Lead, develop and coach a team of collaborative commercial professionals with deep category, business and industry knowledge
- Oversee and manage work planning, execution, resource balancing and team performance
- Manage and track team’s adherence to planned timeframes on contracts/modifications of sourcing activities

Governance & Compliance
- Manage compliance to internal Anglo American and Supply Chain Governance requirements for all team members and pertaining to all Sourcing and Contract Management activities in set portfolio

- Ensure regular, timeous and accurate reporting pertaining to all portfolio activities
Qualifications:
Qualification: An undergraduate qualification - Bachelor degree level or equivalent
Experience: Proven track record of extensive practical experience in Energy and/or Water category management
Desirable: A postgraduate qualification (Honours/ Masters degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline OR a proven track record of extensive practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity
Technical Knowledge:
- Good technical knowledge across the SC value chain
- Safety & sustainability as it relates to Supply Chain & Inclusive Procurement
- Strong commercial, negotiation and deal-making, business case development, investment appraisal
- Working knowledge of regional and local legislative and Anglo American requirements pertaining to Inclusive Procurement and Responsible Sourcing relating to set portfolio
- Advanced Category Management and sourcing & contracting knowledge with TCO approach
- Advanced skills in SRM (Supplier Relationship Management) and SPM (Supplier Performance Management) Critical and systems thinking capability
