    Forklift Driver

    Job Advert Summary    

    • We are seeking a reliable Forklift Driver to join our Cold Store and Logistics team. The main purpose of this role is to safely and efficiently operate forklifts to move, load, and unload goods within the cold storage environment, ensuring stock is stored correctly and orders are fulfilled accurately. The role supports warehouse operations, maintains equipment, and adheres to safety and hygiene standards, contributing to smooth logistical processes and timely delivery of goods. Attention to detail, teamwork, and a strong safety mindset are essential.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Valid forklift license
    • Experience in cold storage/warehouse operations
    • Ability to work in low temperature environments.
    • Matric/Grade 12

    Duties and Responsibilities    

    • Operate Forklift safely in low-temperature conditions (freezer/chiller areas).
    • Conduct pre-shift inspections, including brakes, steering, hydraulics, lights, horn, tyres and battery.
    • Report any mechanical faults immediately and tag unsafe equipment.
    • Drive at reduced speeds due to slippery floors, ice, or condensation
    • Follow all safety rules, signage, and pedestrian zones.
    • Load and unload pallets accurately from trucks, racking and staging areas.
    • Stack, store, and retrieve products according to storage plans and racking limits.
    • Ensure loads are stable, balanced, and secured before lifting.
    • Handle frozen or chilled goods carefully to prevent product damage or temperature abuse.
    • Minimise door-open time to maintain temperature control.
    • Follow FIFO/FEFO principles (first in, first out/first expired, first out.
    • Check pallet labels, batch numbers, and expiry dates where required.
    • Immediately report any damaged, thawed, or temperature-compromised goods
    • Keep aisles, loading bays, and work areas clean and free of ice or obstructions.
    • Follow food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP).
    • Wear required cold-storage PPE.
    • Always use seatbelts and other safety devices.
    • Communicate clearly with supervisors.
    • Report incidents and safety hazards immediately.
    • Support operational targets while maintaining safety and quality standards.
    • Perform additional reasonable duties related to warehouse operations.

    • Design, develop, and implement comprehensive training programmes aligned with:
    • Food Safety standards
    • Quality systems and policies
    • SOPs and GMP requirements
    • Health, Safety, and Hygiene practices
    • Deliver induction training for new employees and refresher training for existing staff
    • Facilitate classroom, on-the-job, and practical training sessions across departments
    • Coach, mentor, and support supervisors and team leaders to reinforce learning on the production floor
    • Identify skills gaps and recommend targeted training interventions
    • Develop, maintain, and manage the Training Matrix and annual training schedule
    • Ensure all employees are trained and assessed as competent in their respective roles
