    PowerGen Field Service Technician

    DESCRIPTION

    • We are looking for a talented PowerGen Field Service Technician to join our team specializing in Service for our Service Operations Department in Gauteng, South Africa.

    In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

    • Deliver reliable, high‑quality diagnosis, repair, overhaul, and rebuilds on complex engine products at customer sites, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum equipment availability.
    • Act as the primary technical specialist and trusted customer contact, providing expert support on complex field issues and reinforcing confidence in the company’s service capability.
    • Build and maintain strong, productive customer relationships by responding promptly to service needs and consistently delivering efficient, customer‑focused solutions.
    • Apply specialized tools, documented procedures, and company policies to safely and accurately execute complex repairs and preventative maintenance to defined standards.
    • Identify, escalate, and collaborate on unresolved technical issues with product specialists or supervisors to ensure effective resolution and continuous improvement.
    • Coach, guide, and support technicians and apprentices through knowledge transfer, work direction, and review of repair plans, strengthening overall team capability.
    • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all service documentation, including service worksheets, timesheets, warranty claims, and quality records.
    • Actively identify additional service and sales opportunities while maintaining strict adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and ensuring service vehicle and tools are kept to a high standard.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    To be successful in this role you will need the following:

    • Strong diagnostic capability, including the ability to translate customer complaints into structured troubleshooting plans, use guided workflows and specialized mechanical/electronic tools, validate repairs, and accurately document outcomes in business systems.
    • Proficient use of electronic service tools and software, with the ability to select the correct tool set, interpret results, and determine effective next steps for timely service resolution.
    • In‑depth understanding of engine systems and their interactions, enabling accurate analysis and repair of complex electrical and mechanical systems using service publications, measurements, and OEM documentation.
    • Disciplined execution of quality repairs, maintenance, documentation, and technical escalation processes, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, within standard repair times, and with complete, traceable service records.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education/ Experience:

    • Qualified Power Generation Technician with an N6 Electrical Certificate and a extensive relevant experience.
    • Strong safety consciousness, with consistent adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards and procedures.
    • Proven ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex systems, delivering first‑time‑right repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
    • Willingness and availability to travel domestically and internationally as required to support service needs.
    • In‑depth understanding of generator paralleling and synchronization, including associated control and protection systems.
    • Certified and competent to work on Medium Voltage (MV) and High Voltage (HV) systems.
    • Demonstrated capability to coach, mentor, and develop team members, enabling others to perform complex diagnostics and repair work effectively.

    Production Associate - Level II

    DESCRIPTION

    • We are looking for a talented Production Associate to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our Master Rebuild Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.

    In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways :

    • Ensure a safe working environment: Proactively identifying hazards, using proper PPE, and taking immediate action when risks arise, helping protect both yourself and your team.
    • Promote a strong HSE culture: Reporting incidents promptly, supporting safety initiatives, and encouraging colleagues to look out for one another.
    • Maintain high product quality: Following standard work instructions, applying SPC and poka‑yoke methods, and performing accurate inspections to reduce defects and rework.

    • Solid operational and technical capability: Correct use of PPE, safe operation of lifting equipment and PIVs (with training provided), and the ability to perform productive/non‑productive tasks such as engine disassembly, acid/wash processes, wire brushing, packing, unpacking, and cleaning components for customer inspections.
    • Strong safety mindset: Consistently applying Health & Safety fundamentals by identifying, reporting, and acting on hazards; using proper tools and protective gear; and actively contributing to an injury‑free, interdependent safety culture.
    • Good manufacturing and 5S discipline: Understanding and applying manufacturing processes, adapting to process or equipment changes, performing high-quality housekeeping, and supporting continuous improvement within the MRC environment.
    • Effective teamwork and communication: Working closely with supervisors and the technical team, aligning on planned production activities, supporting core engine sourcing and repacking, and ensuring smooth operational flow (including covering engines and preparing skids).

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education/ Experience

    • High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.
    • Requires some work experience or intermediate level knowledge obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.

    Reliability Engineer

    DESCRIPTION

    • This product risk focused position manages critical reliability activities within new product development in order to meet customer and business reliability expectations. People in this position execute and/or facilitate activities needed to prevent and detect failures and improve reliability. This position may also assist in establishing, maintaining and continuously improving common, global tools and methods used to assess and improve product reliability.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Obtains input and negotiates with new product technical and core teams and delivers plans to meet critical reliability deliverables to new product development leadership. Makes decisions in the areas of product problem prevention, detection and correction that impact overall new product reliability. Applies and improves processes such as quantitative reliability analysis and failure reporting and corrective action systems and tools required to support the processes and enable high quality decision making. Provides independent leadership of smaller business impact projects or ownership of complex components, products, systems or services with greater elements of ambiguity over the senior or lead engineer level and with full accountability to the project team. Delivers independent execution of established and emerging work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge. Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across a functional discipline area within a business unit site. Coordinates and directs work amongst technicians and temporary student employees, assists in the transfer of knowledge to lesser experienced engineers through either indirect (scope of influence) or direct management of a small, local group of engineers. Provides support and guidance to influence technical direction within a project team and continues to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role. Operates as a recognized specialist in a discipline or product area within the immediate team.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Competencies:

    • Product Failure Mode Avoidance - Mitigates potential product failure modes, by identifying interfaces, functions, functional requirements, interactions, control factors, noise factors, and prioritized potential failure modes and potential failure causes for the system of interest to effectively and efficiently improve the reliability of Cummins’ products.
    • Product Failure Reporting and Corrective/Preventive Action Systems - Defines and leads a process to record, prioritize, and resolve product failures using cross-functional reviews, rigorous problem solving methods, failed parts transfer processes, data management tools, and project management practices to effectively and efficiently improve the reliability of the product.
    • Product Function Modeling, Simulation and Analysis - Impacts product design decisions through the utilization and/or interpretation of computational tools and methods that predict the capability of a product's function relative to its system, sub-system and/or component level requirements.
    • Product Problem Solving - Solves product problems using a process that protects the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; and identifies the systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.
    • Product Reliability and Reliability Risk Management - Plans and manages critical reliability activities during new product development by preventing failures before hardware, detecting failures before the customer does, and improving products before production in order to release a reliable and durable product; evaluates key technical and program measures to assess the launch readiness of a new product using prescribed indicators, measures, risk scales and methods of tracking to focus attention on metrics to reduce risk and improve reliability.
    • Quantitative Reliability Analysis - Analyzes failure data from existing and/or new products by establishing failure rate models for use in assessing the feasibility of meeting reliability targets, comparing the reliability of product alternatives, estimating reliability and product coverage costs, identifying emerging issues, or verifying that improvements implemented have had the desired reliability improvement.
    • Reliability Test Planning - Develops and analyzes a test plan acknowledging the relationship among reliability, sample size, distribution parameters and confidence; develops system level reliability test plan by considering schedule, number of units, applications, noises, and locations to find unknown failure modes to improve reliability; creates an accelerated test plan by increased use, overstress testing, or combining multiple stresses to build and extrapolate a model to estimate reliability under normal use conditions.

    Experience:

    • Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.
