    Pricing Manager

    Key Purpose

    • Seeking a Pricing Manager with a strong background in short-term insurance to lead the development of customer lifetime value models, renewal strategies and the pricing strategy for Discovery Insure. The ideal candidate will have experience in predictive modeling, data analysis, and actuarial techniques to support business objectives and drive profitability.

    Areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to

    • Oversee and guide in-depth investigations and ad-hoc analysis to support pricing decisions and business objectives.
    • Lead the creation and refinement of actuarial models to monitor business performance and support development initiatives.
    • Take ownership of lifetime value models and renewal strategies, ensuring they maximize customer value and retention.
    • Utilize and oversee predictive modeling techniques to segment the client base and identify pricing opportunities.
    • Ensure models are accurate and fit for purpose, regularly monitoring their performance and making necessary adjustments.
    • Establish and maintain monitoring processes to measure model performance, ensuring accuracy and reliability in pricing decisions.
    • Ensure data processes are continuously maintained and updated, providing oversight and direction.
    • Develop and implement pricing strategies aligned with business objectives, ensuring competitiveness and profitability

    Technical Skills and Knowledge

    • Modelling skills preferred
    • Experience with WTW software (e.g., Emblem, Radar)
    • Programming Skills: SQL (Intermediate)
    • Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) (Advanced) Insurance experience is advantageous.

    Education and Experience

    Education:

    • Matric (Essential)
    • Honours degree in Actuarial Science and/or Mathematical Statistics/ Computer Science or Strong mathematical/economics candidate (Essential)
    • FASSA (Advantageous)

    Minimum Experience:              

    • At least 3–5-year Technical Pricing experience within Insurance industry (advantageous)

    Talent Pool - Junior Data Scientist

    About the Position

    • We have a vacancy for a data scientist to work on cutting-edge Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Large Language Model (LLM) projects. The team has been researching, using, training, and engineering systems which leverage NLP and LLMs for years, and we are looking for team members to help expand and accelerate this research and development.

    Responsibilities include

    • Working with huge quantities of unstructured text data from a variety of sources.
    • Completing reviews of relevant academic literature and industry releases
    • Working with seniors in the team to own the delivery of projects from inception through to deployment and business adoption.
    • Prototyping code for data science and ML systems, particularly those using NLP and LLMs, in line with architecture designed with senior data scientists and data engineers.
    • Evaluating prototypes, models, and deployments robustly to ensure scientific rigour and business value.
    • Presenting analyses and project updates to both technical and business audiences.
    • Keeping an open mind and looking for new opportunities for the use of existing datasets and tools, as well as new ones, for novel business applications

    Technical Skills

    • SQL and working with databases.

    • Experience with using and/or developing NLP packages and models.
    • Experience with TensorFlow and/or PyTorch.
    • Experience with using and/or training LLMs.
    • Experience with Spark and/or Dask.

    Education and Experience

    • Honours or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Industrial engineering, Applied Mathematics, or similar quantitative field. A PhD degree would be advantageous. Other qualifications will also be considered if accompanied by relevant experience.

    Key Purpose

    • Accountability and leadership of the Discovery Life Funeral Sales Team.

    Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to:

    • Lead and manage a Funeral Cover sales channel consisting of business consultants and financial advisors.
    • Achievement of sales and quality targets.

    • Must comply with the fit and proper requirements (COB, RE, Qualification, PST and CPD).
    • Ensure that representatives are compliant with the fit and proper requirements.
    • Representatives complete all required training for their role.
    • Review the advice rendered by the representative.
    • Monitor on an ongoing basis that the representatives are treating customers fairly.
    • Supervise representatives under supervision:
    • To ensure that all the required fit and proper requirements are complied with (Qualification and PST),
    • where monitoring of representatives under supervision is delegated, the following should be done:
    • record the process of delegation and the reporting frequency monitoring done.
    • Instil a culture of treating customers fairly in all aspects of the business.
    • Ensure that there are business processes and operational ability.

    Operations Co-Ordinator

    Job Purpose

    Key Outputs may include but are not limited to:
    Hospitalities Co-Ordinator will manage the following areas within CRES Hospitalities Team: 

    • SOFT SERVICES:  Reporting and logging calls for faulty Snack and Vending Machines |
    • Distributing stock to Tea Hostesses | Monitoring and maintaining stock control of Mugs
    • MEETING ROOMS:  Meeting room layout and setups and assist with event co-ordination for Discovery.
    • LIFESTYLE SERVICES:  Administrative requirements - data collection and compilation of statistics for national reporting
    • COMMUNICATION:  Assist with Communication to business and induction presentation
    • DEPARTMENTAL:  General back up support for the entire Hospitalities Gqeberha Team
    • CUSTOMER SERVICES:  This role is Customer Service focused with the purpose of this role is to attend to ADHOC requests from business (PA’s and contractors)
    • GENERAL:  Reception relief, Invoice preparation, Inventory/stock sheet tracking and Health and Safety representation
    • The Co-ordinator’s core purpose and focus will be Hospitalities – bringing all CRES business units together in ensuring that our client’s / staff / customers feel at home in their work environment.
