Introduction

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
- Oversee the management of the accreditation office ensuring proper governance is followed and risk is mitigated by implementing the accreditation guidelines and proper accounting and system controls including complaints management.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
- The Digital Learning Specialist (Instructional Designer and Educational Developer) provides specialist instructional design and educational development expertise to support the development, implementation and refinement of the new 940-credit, integrated, spiral MBChB curriculum at the Desmond Tutu School of Medicine, North-West University. The incumbent leads and facilitates structured curriculum and learning design processes, applying recognised instructional design models and methodologies, including Carpe Diem curriculum design, constructive alignment, backward design, learning experience design (LXD) and Bloom's Taxonomy. The incumbent ensures alignment across phases, modules and years of the spiral curriculum while optimising the use of learning technologies, including LOOOP, to support curriculum delivery, student engagement, assessment and progress tracking. Working closely with the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), phase coordinator(s), module leads and subject matter experts, the role contributes the educational-technology and learning-design expertise required to build a coherent curriculum capable of meeting HPCSA accreditation standards and preparing the school for its first MBChB cohort in 2028.

Learning design
- Lead and support the design, development, implementation and continuous enhancement of the MBChB curriculum using recognised instructional design methodologies, constructive alignment, appropriate design approaches and Learning Experience Design (LXD).
- Facilitate collaborative curriculum design workshops; develop learning materials, assessments, learning pathways, learning analytics dashboards, LibGuides, resource repositories and digitally enabled learning experiences within the LMS (Brightspace) and CMS (LOOOP) platforms.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
- The Medical IT Technician provides specialised technical support for educational technologies, medical simulation systems and digital learning infrastructure used in the MBChB programme, especially in the Clinical Skills and Simulation Unit, the Anatomy Block and other related facilities in the Desmond Tutu School of Medicine.

Manage audiovisual infrastructure used for simulation training and assessment including:
- Lecture capture systems.
- Video recording equipment for OSCEs and simulation training.

- Ensure recording systems are functional during assessments and simulation exercises.
- Manage storage and retrieval of simulation recordings for educational review.
e-Learning platform support
Provide technical support for digital teaching platforms used in the MBChB programme, including but not limited to:
- Achieve and maintain mastery of any e-learning platform used.
- Ensure regular communication with the University’s development teams.
- Support with online assessment platforms; virtual simulation software; digital anatomy, biochemistry, physiology platforms.
- Train and support academic and support staff to work effectively within the LMS and other selected software packages.
Simulation scenario and training support
Support academic staff by:
- Configuring skills trainers with an electronic component andhigh-fidelity simulation mannequins and environments.
- Setting up audiovisual equipment utilised during simulation.
- Assisting with IT in simulation training sessions, workshops and debriefing sessions.
- Support OSCE examinations and other performance-based assessments.
Equipment procurement and inventory management
- Assist with the procurement of equipment.
- Maintain inventory and asset management systems for the Desmond Tutu School of Medicine.
- Coordinate updates, maintenance, repairs and servicing of equipment with external suppliers.
Technical training and user support
- Support and train staff in the use of technologies and digital teaching tools.
- Provide user support during teaching sessions, workshops and clinical skills training.
- Develop user guides and technical documentation for equipment and systems.
Website design and development
- Provide website support for the Desmond Tutu School of Medicine in cooperation with the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Ad hoc duties
- Perform such other tasks as are required by supervisors to be important to the functioning of the MBChB programme of the Desmond Tutu School of Medicine and which fall within the incumbent’s range of skills.
Minimum requirements
- A bachelor’s degree/advanced diploma in Information Technology/Computer Science/Biomedical Technology/Electronics or Electrical Engineering (NQF level 7).
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in providing technical support in an institutional or corporate IT environment, preferably with a medical education component.
- A minimum of 1 – 2 years’ experience in supporting clinical simulation equipment, training systems or advanced audiovisual systems.
- A minimum of 1 - 2 years’ experience in supporting digital learning systems such as LMS.
- A minimum of 1 – 2 years’ experience in operating recording systems, cameras, microphones and lecturer capture technologies.
